Richard Hammond’s Ford Ranger has converted him into a truck guy

Richard Hammond owns a Ford Ranger Wildrak. The Wildtrak is the Ford Ranger’s off-road trim. The popular Bronco off-road SUV also has a Wildtrak trim.

Hammond is a self-proclaimed truck guy after purchasing a Ranger Wildtrak. The Drivetribe YouTube channel challenged Richard to name seven different things he loves about the vehicle, and his answers seemed pretty generic and non-specific to the Ranger Wildtrak. Perhaps this is the first truck to intrigue the automotive personality in a long time.

Hammond seems pretty nonchalant about the truck despite the Drivetribe video title suggesting that the Ranger Wildtrak is his new dream car. In the video, Richard touches on the fact that he’s had the luxury of interacting with some of the finest automobiles ever produced.

It’s tough to believe that a Ford Ranger is his new dream car, but Motor1 claims that Hammond purchased the truck with his own money, and showing the Ranger Wildtrak love isn’t a paid ad. There’s plenty to love about the Ranger Wildtrak, but we can’t tell whether or not Hammond is hammin’ it up about his new pickup. So, what’s so great about the Ranger?

The 2023 Ford Ranger Wildtrak is born to be wild

The Blue Oval put its off-road Ranger through many stress tests. The Ranger Wildtrak is able to battle sand, muddy trails, 2.6 feet of water, and many other obstacles.

This Ranger isn’t afraid to get dirty. The Ranger Wildtrak’s main appeal is its off-road capability. It has a 30-degree approach angle and a 23-degree rear departure angle.

The Ranger Wildtrak’s ground clearance and tires have yet to be released, but the Wildtrak will likely feature a suspension upgrade and all-terrain tires. Ford off-road trims also often feature tow hooks and other off-road accessories. The 2023 Ford Ranger uses a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine to make 247 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. It gets 20 miles per gallon combined.

Should you buy a 2023 Ford Ranger?

The Ford Ranger and Ford Maverick are often compared because of similar dimensions, but they are two very different pickup trucks.

The Ranger is only getting more “truck-like” and acts as a strong juxtaposition to the Maverick sedan alternative. Kelley Blue Book claims that the 2023 Ford Ranger will start at around $28,000. The Ford Ranger is the perfect middle ground between the subcompact Maverick and the full-size F-150.
