General Motors dropped a new teaser confirming the arrival of the Chevrolet Corvette C8 ZR1 this summer. It’s a big deal for the nameplate; the ZR1 hasn’t enjoyed a revival since its single-model-year C7 interpretation in 2019. Move over, C8 Z06 and E-Ray, the upcoming C8 Corvette ZR1 may very well be the most powerful ‘Vette to date.

Chevrolet will unveil the C8 Corvette ZR1 this summer, but it has some steep competition from its siblings

An upcoming ZR1 was inevitable. After all, the 1970 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is one of the most sought-after models in the nameplate’s history. That, and the unstoppable savagery of the C7 ZR1 stands today as the highest horsepower output of any production ‘Vette. However, a recent teaser suggests the C8 Corvette ZR1 may incorporate a combination of the Z06’s 5.5L LT6 V8. But it will certainly outmuscle the current performance benchmark.

Consequently, playing the teaser at volume will treat your ears to an exhaust and engine note on the higher side. This suggests the presence of some derivation of the high-revving 670-horsepower flat-plane LT6 V8. However, to outmuscle the most potent Corvettes, the upcoming ZR1 will have to produce over 755 horsepower, the power output of the previous generation ZR1’s supercharged 6.2L V8.

Unsurprisingly, it looks like the silhouetted ZR1 model will feature some aggressive aero throughout. The Chevrolet teaser features a momentary, albeit darkened glimpse at the car’s fascia as it smashes its own chromed badge. Eagle-eyed ‘Vette vets will see familiar shapes in the lower fascia, namely gaping openings for the upcoming performance car’s cooling system. What’s more, as if horns on the car’s head, an aggressive wing is partially visible. Mechanical grip will undoubtedly play in tandem with razor-sharp aero features.
