Three versions of the new 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron are heading to our shores. This provides us with an electric luxury SUV wearing the four-ring badge. These new Audi EV models bring traditional styling elements, the benefits of cool features like the Audi Digital Cockpit Display, and plenty of comfort. Still, there’s something that could cause the new 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron models to fail.

What are the new 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron models?

The three versions of this electric Audi SUV are:

  • The Q4 40 e-tron which is an RWD version
  • The AWD Q4 50 e-tron
  • The AWD Q4 Sportback e-tron

All three models come in Premium, Premium Plus, or Prestige trims.

Regardless of the version chosen, this Audi EV uses an 82-kWh battery pack which attaches to a 150-kW electric motor driving the rear axle. The AWD versions of this Audi electric SUV have an additional 80-kW electric motor for the front wheels.

What’s the driving range of these Audi SUV models?

Each version of the new 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron offers a different driving range. Because all three models use the same battery pack, the base RWD version offers the longest driving range at 265 miles.

Moving to the Q4 50 e-tron you’ll find a driving range of 236 miles, which is five miles less than the 2022 version of this electric SUV. The Q4 Sportback e-tron delivers a driving range of 242 miles, which is one additional mile compared to 2022.

What does the base version of this Audi EV offer?

So far, everything seems to be perfectly acceptable for these Audi electric SUVs. Could the features offered be what causes this EV to fail? That’s doubtful since the base version comes packed with goodies, and the higher trims only add to that.

The 2023 Audi Q4 40 e-tron Premium includes:

  • Forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alerts
  • Lane-departure warning
  • Automatic high beams
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • A rearview monitor
  • Individual tire pressure monitors
  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • LED headlights
  • Heated outboard mirrors
  •  Panoramic glass sunroof
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Power liftgate
  • LED taillights
  • Alu-optic roof rails
  • A 9.6-kW compact charging system
  • 11.6-inch infotainment screen
  • 10.25-inch digital dashboard gauge cluster
  • Leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated power front seats
  • Tri-zone automatic climate controls
  • 10-speaker audio system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

That’s a lot of stuff to say that a vehicle is doomed to failure.

The price changes will impact consumers looking for a compact electric SUV to drive the most. InsideEVs reports the price changes for this Audi electric SUV to be $5,300-$5,900 more than the first models offered in 2021. These numbers are even higher than the figures from October 2022.

The new prices for the Q4 e-tron SUV lineup are:

  • Q4 40 e-tron – $49,800
  • Q4 50 e-tron – $55,200
  • Q4 Sportback e-tron – $58,200

Aren’t all EV prices going up? Why would that doom this Audi electric SUV to failure?

In addition to the price increases, the Q4 e-tron lineup no longer qualifies for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit because this electric SUV is entirely imported from Germany. This Audi SUV is produced in Zwickau, Germany, and shares the same MEB platform with the Volkswagen ID.4.

The loss of the $7,500 tax credit coupled with higher prices could mean a difference of $13,000 for some consumers. This difference might be enough to turn some away from the new 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron.
