The Toyota Prius Prime is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of the popular Prius. It used to be the Prius Plug-in Hybrid, but now the word “Prime” means PHEV in Toyota parlance. The Prius Prime is extremely efficient, getting an all-electric range of up to 44 miles and up to 52 combined mpg when the hybrid battery is depleted. With 220 horsepower and zippy acceleration, it’s also more fun to drive than you might expect.

Let’s look at the cost of the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime. We’ll also examine what you can expect to pay for a fully loaded example.

The 2024 Toyota Prius Prime SE entry-level trim

The 2024 Toyota Prius Prime has a starting MSRP of $32,675. That’s for the base SE model. Thanks to its modest 17-inch wheels, it’s the most efficient version of the Prius Prime. That means it can go the farthest on a full charge and tank and has the lowest fuel costs.

Standard features on the Toyota Prius Prime include an 8-inch infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Safe Exit Assist, blind-spot monitoring, and LED daytime running lights.

The standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 safety tech suite bundles features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, traffic sign assist, and more.

The mid-range XSE trim starts at $35,925. Its 19-inch wheels add a nicer look, but it also makes the Prius Prime a little less efficient, with a 39-mile all-electric range and 48 combined mpg with a dead battery, according to the EPA.

Extra features in the XSE trim include SofTex-trimmed seats, heated front seats, a wireless charging pad, front and rear parking sensors, and an auto-dimming mirror with a universal garage door opener.

What’s included in the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime XSE Premium?

The top XSE Premium trim of the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime begins at $39,370. It has a memory driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, a 12.3-inch display, a JBL eight-speaker audio system, a fixed glass roof, and a power liftgate.

The Toyota Prius Prime XSE Premium might seem a bit pricey for a compact Toyota, but its pricing is about right for a well-equipped PHEV. One of its closest rivals is the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid, which starts at over $40,000 in its top SX Touring trim. Additionally, due to its hatchback status, the Prius Prime still offers plenty of adjustable cargo space compared to a sedan.

Accessories and add-ons for the Prius Prime PHEV

The top 2024 Toyota Prius Prime XSE Premium trim still has several options you can add. A few include a digital rearview mirror ($200), heated rear seats ($350), a solar charging roof ($610), and a couple of premium paint options ($425).

When you add every option, the cost of a fully loaded Prius Prime comes to $42,710. That includes the $1,095 destination fee that applies to all Prius Prime models.

A fully loaded Prius Prime is a nice PHEV, but we recommend the base SE trim. It’s the most affordable and efficient version of the Prius Prime and is still pretty well-equipped for the money.
