The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a plug-in hybrid compact SUV. In addition to its efficient PHEV powertrain capable of 38 miles of all-electric range, it has the convenience of three-row seating, which is uncommon in its class. In a growing segment of plug-in hybrid SUVs, the Outlander PHEV competes with the plug-in versions of the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and the three-row Kia Sorento.

Let’s look at the cost of the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and what you can expect to pay for a fully loaded example.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV ES and SE trim levels

The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a starting MSRP of $40,345. That gets you the base ES model. Standard features in the Outlander PHEV ES include all-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels, seven-passenger seating, automatic LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and Android Auto. Safety tech includes blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking. It also comes with seven drive modes: Normal, Power, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud.

After the ES comes the mid-range SE trim of the Outlander PHEV starts at $42,995. This trim brings 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a nine-inch infotainment screen, navigation, HD Radio, and a wireless charging pad. Also, it has MI-PILOT Assist with Navi-link adaptive cruise control, lane-departure prevention, and traffic sign recognition.

What’s included in the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SEL?

The top SEL trim of the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV begins at $46,295. In addition to what you get in the SE model, the SEL trim adds three-zone automatic climate control, a memory driver’s seat, DC Fast Charging capability, LED fog lights, leather seats, rear sunshades, and silver roof rails.

Two option packages can make the Outlander PHEV SEL more luxurious. The Touring Package ($2,200) adds a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, a Bose audio system, and a heated steering wheel. The SEL Premium Package ($2,700) adds all of the above, plus semi-aniline leather seats, massaging front seats, and synthetic leather door inserts with quilting.

When you add the SEL Premium Package, one of the premium paint options ($995), a tonneau cover ($205), and the Welcome Package of accessories ($195), the cost of a loaded Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes to $51,835. That also includes the $1,445 destination fee that applies to all Outlander PHEV models.

Is the Outlander PHEV SEL a good value?

A fully loaded 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a nice SUV. However, it’s a little hard to recommend spending over $50k on a compact SUV from Mitsubishi. If your budget is that big, we’d recommend the Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid. It’s roomier, more powerful, and comes exclusively in the luxurious SX Prestige trim starting at $49,990. Even the Tesla Model Y, with the dual-motor powertrain and optional third row of seats, is around that price point.

For most shoppers, the mid-range SE trim is the best buy in the Outlander PHEV lineup. Starting at just under $43k, it has the best balance of premium features and modern technology at a reasonable price point. Also, it’s hard to find any plug-in hybrid vehicle with three-row seating at this price point.
