Do people buy the best version of the 2022 Dodge Durango? One trim level is more popular than all the others. Every version of the Dodge three-row SUV is a viable option, but some are better than others. According to a few experts, the best Durango trim is not the most popular. The most popular 2022 Dodge Durango doesn’t provide the most value.

According to Edmunds, the GT is the most popular 2022 Dodge Durango trim. One tier above the base model, it’s much more affordable than many other Durangos. That’s likely one of the primary reasons people buy it over other selections. A Durango GT costs $41,995, roughly $2,000 more than the SXT base model. Alternatively, opting for an upper trim costs anywhere from $46,000 to over $70,000.

However, choosing the base model or most popular Durango gets owners a surprisingly wide array of features. Every version of the three-row SUV comes with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, three-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, keyless entry/ignition, and more.

However, the most popular GT only adds a power liftgate, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, remote ignition, 20-inch wheels, and a black grille/window trim. Is that really enough to make it worth the extra cash? If it isn’t, the two optional packages probably are. They’re the easiest way to make the Durango luxurious, as the GT Plus and Premium Group I packages unlock for the most popular trim.

These packages include a lot of extra equipment. For example, leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, a sunroof, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless smartphone charger, navigation, and much more. Unfortunately, the Durango is much more expensive with these packages, which is why another trim is more valuable.

The best 2022 Dodge Durango trim, according to experts

The best 2022 Dodge Durango trim is the R/T, according to experts. A few things set it out above the rest and make it worth the extra cash. It begins at $52,155 MSRP, so it’ll be much more costly than the GT or another lower-tier model. However, the Durango R/T makes it worth your while.

Moreover, the value begins with improved power and towing capabilities. These are made possible by the standard 5.7-liter V8 engine, a significant upgrade over the 3.6-liter V6 found in lower trims. With it, the Durango makes 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. As a result, it can tow up to 7,400 pounds, which is impressive for a three-row SUV.

Next, the R/T trim comes with most features from the GT trim, including the two optional packages. Then, it adds 20-inch wheels, a Sport suspension, a power-adjustable passenger’s seat, and a household power outlet. Although the features aren’t plentiful, most of the value comes from capability in towing, power, and speed.

Is the Durango SRT worth it?

Whether or not you should buy the 2022 Dodge Durango SRT is a difficult question to answer. It’s the range-topping trim that focuses entirely on performance. If you’re interested in a three-row SUV but still crave the power and speed of a sports car or smaller vehicle, it’s the best option. However, for those just looking for a spacious family vehicle, it might be better to avoid it.

The SRT gets an even more upgraded engine, a 6.4-liter V8. As a result, it makes a whopping 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. In addition, it’s the only model in the Durango lineup to come with standard all-wheel drive, although it is an option for all other trims. Lastly, features build on the R/T, adding Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential, a high-performance adaptive suspension, sport seats with upgraded leather, and active noise cancellation.

Whether or not the SRT is worth $70,555 MSRP, is up to the buyer. While it is well-equipped and will outperform just about every other three-row SUV in speed and towing, it’s also very expensive.

Although the GT trim of the 2022 Dodge Durango is the most popular, there are better options. While it’s more affordable than the R/T, performance isn’t as good. Although the base SXT and GT trims are well-equipped for features, they’re missing one crucial thing. Upgrading to the R/T model gives you the V8 engine, more speed, power, and extra towing capacity. That’s why experts like Edmunds say the R/T is the Durango to buy for around $10K more than the most popular trim, as it provides more value even at a higher price.
