Georgia Man Carrying Meth Fires Gun and Steals Truck to Evade Police
Things are not looking good for a Georgia man who used his meth to fuel a ridiculous crime spree. He fired his gun at police officers and stole a truck in an attempt to get away from the police. Too bad he was forbidden to have a firearm due to earlier crimes.
Georgia man fires at police, steals truck, and gets caught with meth
A police officer in DeKalb County, Georgia, tried to stop a white van. He was trying to stop a suspect identified as Gary Jody Childers, who had a warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The van pulled over, and the officer started to exit his cruiser as Childers stuck the gun out of the driver’s side window. He fired multiple shots, striking the police car, and then fled the scene.
Childers crashed the van and escaped on foot. Police officers didn’t know where he was for days. They followed multiple false leads and spent hours investigating.
But they got a break in the case as Childers was spotted in a 2016 Volvo truck. The semi-truck was involved with lumber rigging. According to Coosa Valley News, Childers was located at the Evans Store in Coosa. Reportedly, he threatened to shoot two customers while stealing gas.
As officers were taking him into custody, he gave them a fake name. He had a gun in his pants and 22 grams of methamphetamine in his pockets. Childers is wanted on active warrants in Alabama.
He was charged with theft by taking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, meth with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, giving false information to the police, obstruction, and fugitive from justice.
