‘Massive, historic’ crowd sells out 109th Indy 500 on May 25
If you’ve been on the fence about snagging a reserved seat for the 109th Indy 500, now’s the time to act. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has almost completely sold out its grandstands, with just a few reserved tickets left. This is the closest the race has come to a full sellout since the 100th running back in 2016.
The Speedway expects over 300,000 fans on Indy 500 Race Day, making this event one of the largest single-day sporting events on the planet
Even the pre-race hype feels bigger. FOX is bringing NFL stars like Tom Brady, Michael Strahan, and Rob Gronkowski to the party. Brady will ride shotgun in the Fastest Seat in Sports with Jimmie Johnson. Strahan drives the pace car. Gronk hosts the Snake Pit.
Race Day hype has taken over Indianapolis. Residents have flown racing flags, hosted themed porch parties, and filled the city with Indy-inspired art.
Penske Entertainment CEO Mark Miles says, “This year, the greatest race on Earth will host one of its biggest and most memorable crowds in many decades.” He added that the sellout is a perfect showcase for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and a strong start to the new FOX Sports partnership.
INDYCAR and IMS President Doug Boles echoed the excitement, saying, “The very best fans in sports have delivered in historic and fitting fashion for the incredible stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. The sheer size and scale of this crowd is going to be massive and will offer an epic backdrop for the very first Indy 500 on FOX.”
As of this writing, reserved seats are nearly gone. You can still find a few peppered in the grandstands. General admission tickets for the infield are still available.
For the first time, FOX will broadcast the running live in Central Indiana, ending a long-standing local blackout
Coverage begins at 10 a.m. Eastern on May 25, with the green flag dropping around 12:45 p.m.
If you’re headed to IMS for the 109th Indy 500, plan to arrive early. Gates open at 6 a.m., giving you plenty of time to enjoy new concessions, fan zones, and pre-race festivities.
