Back when I drove an Uber, I ended every ride with the same warning. “Doublecheck you have your cellphone, wallet, and other personal effects. It won’t be fun for either of us if you forget them!” I was far from the only driver with this mantra. But last year, 1.7 million Uber riders contacted the company to report leaving their phones in cars. Close behind were forgotten keys and wallets. But according to Uber, some riders left much more unique items behind.

Uber’s 2025 “Lost & Found Index” is a bucket of laughs. Though it includes many lists of various types of lost items, the centerpiece is the 50 most “unique” lost items forgotten in 2024 Ubers.

  47. Taxidermied rabbit
  48. Chicken sculpture
  49. Hannah Montana merchandise
  50. DJ mixing board

There were some truly unique personal items left in Ubers last year

I have so many questions. Were the Cornish Hens alive or dead? Did the same passenger leave the Chicken sculpture? How did the 2 mattresses fit in an Uber? Who still travels with 100 DVDs? How do I get a very large portrait of myself? And was “my turtle” a live pet? How did the unfortunate little guy get left behind?

The three most bizarre entries have to be the 10 live lobsters, 15 hookahs, and the mannequin head with real human hair. All I can think is that the 10 live lobsters must have been inside a cooler full of ice, on the way to a cookout (And not as the honored guests). But then why not just tell Uber “I left my cooler.” Asking for your “10 live lobsters” back seems a bit excessive.

Next, 15 hookahs. Have you seen the size of a hookah? Fitting 15 of them in a ride share would require an Uber XL. And they would fill the SUV completely. So how do you forget them all?

Finally, the mannequin with a full head of human hair? Was it a wig being transported? Or was it a practice head for a beauty school? Either way, not a cheap item to leave behind.

Whatever the true story, we know the moral. Next time you’re getting out of an Uber, remember your belongings. It doesn’t matter whether you travel with your “Remy the rat doll” or “Viking drinking horn,” you don’t want to get caught on Uber’s “Lost & Found Index” next year.
