According to Mopar Insiders, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L is facing a recall because child seats may become separated from the vehicle’s seats. Some models may have been built without the weld from the seatback frame that connects the child seat tether anchorage.

As a result, these SUVs fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 225 for Child Restraint Anchorage Systems. The standard ensures child restraint anchorage systems are in the proper location with the correct amount of strength to effectively secure the child restraint.

Because the weld is missing, the child seat tether may separate from the seat frame during an accident, increasing the risk of injury. Stellantis will conduct a voluntary recall to inspect the 2021 – 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L models.

The recall is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2022, and owners at risk will be notified about this issue around May 13 via mail. Dealers will expect the seats and replace the equipment if necessary.
