Texas Public Safety Troopers noticed that a black Chevrolet Camaro and a white Ford F-150 were acting suspiciously. So, they called for assistance from United States Border Patrol Agents to initiate a traffic stop on both cars.
They were located around Boca Chica Boulevard and South Indiana Avenue. Once agents got behind the suspects, they hit their lights to pull them over. Both drivers fled. A DPS Trooper followed the Camaro while a BPA went after the F-150.
The truck rear-ended the back of a tractor-trailer, and one passenger jumped out and got away. Meanwhile, the driver and two passengers were injured in the cab. Emergency crews immediately provided aid to the passengers, who were identified as illegal immigrants.
The driver, a male passenger, was identified as an American citizen. He was pulled from the truck and transported to a local hospital. He was later pronounced deceased due to blunt force trauma.
Both of the passengers were treated for their injuries and taken into custody. It’s unclear if the driver of the Camaro got away.
According to CPB, this incident remains under investigation by the TX DPS and DEA. The CPB Officer of Professional Responsibility is reviewing the case. It notified the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General.
