Greta Thunberg is a famous, young activist for the climate change debate and is well-known for her refusal to use flying as a form of transportation. When she announced that she would be traveling extensively through the U.S. and Canada, she knew she would need environmentally-friendly transportation. But who knew help would come in the form of the previous “Governator,” Arnold Schwarzenegger and a Tesla Model 3?

Climate change activist gets fully-electric Tesla

According to Vanity Fair, Greta Thunberg has plans to take her climate change debate through the U.S. and Canada, before she heads to Santiago, Chile in December. That’s where she will join other world leaders at the 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference. But traveling around the world is hard when you choose not to use airplanes. And while she knew her trip full of protests and events would be moving “slowly,” she still had no idea how she would travel.

When fellow activist Arnold Schwarzenegger heard that Thunberg would need a reliable and carbon-footprint-friendly vehicle, he decided to step in. Though the former Governor debated lending her his own private, fully-electric Hummer, it was eventually deemed too impractical for her journey. Schwarzenegger however, couldn’t leave her without a climate-friendly mode of transportation and arranged for Thunberg to get a brand new Tesla Model 3. According to Car and Driver, he was determined to allow Thunberg the ability to “travel fully electric through the United States and Canada.”

Considering Thunberg has already started her journey across the continent, attending a climate strike in Montreal, Canada, with more than 500,000 people in attendance. It appears her gifted Tesla Model 3 is being put to good use already, thanks to Schwarzenegger.

How two activists became friends

As Teslarati and his spokesman claim, Schwarzenegger had already asked “the young, fiery activist to give him a call ‘if she needed anything.'” And though a relationship between these two may sound strange,  it should come as no surprise, considering the two climate change activists have been active voices in the debate for years. They first met each other in person just earlier this year, in Vienna, where Schwarzenegger admitted he was “starstruck” by the young activist and admitted he was a fan long before their meeting. But Schwarzenegger had already previously admitted to being a big fan of Thunberg’s work.

What Greta Thunberg will get with her new Model 3

Thunberg won’t be disappointed in the Model 3 as she tours the continent. New 2019 Tesla Model 3’s may be fully-electric, but don’t let that fool you. The Model 3 can get up to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, according to Tesla. It works on an all-wheel-drive, dual-motor platform that has a top speed of 162 mph, so Thunberg won’t have to worry about lagging behind on her trip. The Model 3 can be driven for up to 310 miles on a single charge, making it an ideal candidate for the climate activist’s trip across the continent. She’ll also be turning up to her events in style, considering the Model 3 is like something out of a dream.

New 2019 Model 3s begin around $36,000, which is a reasonable price when you consider its features. Not just fully-electric and quick, the Model 3 boasts great handling, semi-autonomous driving tech, and a slew of modern amenities. According to Car and Driver, the 2019 Tesla Model 3 has a low center of gravity, strong acceleration, beautiful braking power, and perfectly-weighted steering. The interior is just as cool as the exterior, with an overly-large infotainment touchscreen that controls everything in the car. Thunberg will be able to charge her new Model 3 at any one of Tesla’s fast-charging stations, any public charging stations, and when she’s at home. After all, who said environmental consciousness must be done without style?
