The ancient lizard and chest-pounding ape are back at it again. Fans of the MonsterVerse movies will get an unlikely team-up in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” between everyone’s favorite Tokyo-destroying titan and the King of Skull Island himself. However, the movie also features an unlikely automotive choice for apocalyptic carnage: a bright-red Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicle (EV).

Modern times call for crazy collaborations. Omega x Swatch for an internet-breaking “MoonSwatch.” FIAT and Gucci with a bougie custom FIAT 500 hatchback. The latest collaboration? Godzilla and King Kong. You can’t make this stuff up. Moreover, Volkswagen wanted in on the action, slipping the brand’s ID.4 EV into the mix.

Those of you who watch the MonsterVerse films will know that the last time King Kong and Titanus Gojira (the big green one) got together, they had a grudge match that took down skyscrapers. Of course, the two had to work together to save the day; no need to pick sides here.

As far as cars and trucks are concerned, the franchise sports what you’d expect. “Monarch” the paramilitary government organization in the films, operates plenty of HMMWVs (colloquially Humvees) and Jeep Wranglers. Understandable. Both are well-suited to driving off-road, fording shallow rivers, and getting personnel and equipment where they need to go. However, what you likely wouldn’t expect is a bright-red Volkswagen ID.4 in a movie about monsters the size of the Seattle Space Needle.

The Volkswagen ID.4’s screen time in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” isn’t lengthy. However, what it lacks in length, it makes up for in obviousness. The ID.4 gets the full product placement treatment, prominently displayed in an eye-popping shade of red.
