Chevrolet and General Motors closed the books on the Camaro after the 2024 model year. But that doesn’t mean the muscle car nameplate is gone for good. General Motors recently filed a trademark for the name, suggesting something of a resurrection. But maybe not in the way you might want.

2024 was the last year of the Camaro. Now, GM is trademarking the name for a comeback

“Thanks, Six.” That’s what Chevrolet posted on the internet after discontinuing the Camaro. The six references the six generations of the muscle car staple, spanning from 1967 to 2024. For 2025, however, the American pony car pool is down to just the Ford Mustang. No more Chevy Camaro, no more Dodge Challenger.

But the discontinued Chevy might be making a comeback. A recently filed General Motors trademark suggests that the nameplate might be returning from the grave soon. Exciting news, but not in the way you might hope.

Not what you think

For starters, the trademark isn’t American. GM filed the trademark with the Cambodian Department of Intellectual Property, suggesting a variant of the future model will exist in that market. Very few Chevrolet and GM models exist in both Southeast Asia and North America.

Worse yet, while details on the upcoming vehicle are thin, rumors suggest the new Camaro will be an electrified crossover akin to the Ford Mustang Mach-E. So, if you were hoping for the next generation of corner-clipping performance cars like the ZL1 1LE, you might be disappointed.

1,000 horsepower?

On the plus side, the eventual model might pack as much as 1,000 horsepower. That’s a benchmark no production Camaro has come close to touching. As of the Camaro’s discontinuation, the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE produced up to 650 horsepower courtesy of a shouty, supercharged 6.2L V8.

The electrified version will also almost certainly offer AWD with multiple electric motors, something the nameplate has never had. Only time will tell.
