The Ford F-150 has long been one of the best-selling trucks in North America. Even if it has not always been objectively the best pickup, folks seem to love it. And for Q1 2023, the Blue Oval was able to increase the sales of its full-size truck. In fact, the F-Series truck has outperformed its segment.

What is the number-one selling truck?

The top-selling pickup truck has long been the Ford F-150. For over 45 years, the F-Series has actually been the best-selling full-size truck, and that’s a pretty big feat. The pickup truck segment is highly competitive, with manufacturers trying to one-up each other constantly. But it looks like the Blue Oval is doing the best job.

In the first quarter of 2023, the Ford F-Series outsold other vehicles in this segment. Ford was able to move 170,377 units, which is a 21.09% increase from the same point last year. In comparison, Chevy sold 126,992 units, putting it in second place. Meanwhile, the Ram 1500 took third place.

Folks seem to love the Ford F-150

With the number of trims and configurations available to the F-150, it’s no surprise that it has become so popular. Whether you want a V8 engine or a more efficient turbocharged option, you can likely get it with this full-size truck.

There are also many different trims of this truck. It can start out as a work truck but can also come with a number of luxury features. And that includes even offering adjustable pedals, which makes it a winner among shorter drivers.

The 2023 Ford F-150 does have a starting MSRP of $33,695. But popular trims like the Lariat model will cost more than that. Today’s trucks have become pretty pricey, but it does not seem like that is making them lose popularity.

How much can the 2023 F-150 tow?

When properly equipped, the 2023 Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs. In order to get that tow rating, buyers will have to opt for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 400 horsepower. The maximum payload capacity for this full-size truck is 3,250 lbs.

This kind of capability likely lends to the success of the Ford F-150, and why it is the best-selling full-size truck for Q1 2023. It is competitive with other popular trucks like the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500.

One thing that sets the F-150 apart from other pickups is its hybrid engine. With the hybrid powertrain, Ford’s full-size truck can tow up to 12,700 lbs. Plus, according to Car and Driver, the estimated fuel economy is 25 mpg city and 26 mph highway. That might be enough to sell folks on the viability of a hybrid truck.
