The Chrysler PT Cruiser was met with mixed feelings upon its early-2000s debut. Once most drivers got behind the wheel, those feelings leaned toward calling it one of the worst cars ever. Although critics see this retro-styled ride as an abject failure, a photo circulating on social media shows a strange collection of red PT Cruisers parked outside one house. What gives?

What is the bizarre photo of 5 red PT Cruisers?

For the past few years, an image has been making the rounds on social media. The picture shows a relatively ordinary home with an extraordinary car collection. Though it’s not unusual for car enthusiasts to own multiple vehicles, the photo is odd.

In the image, five red PT Cruisers are parked in the same direction outside a traditional ranch-style house. Why would anyone want several identical models of the same color? Why would anyone choose five red Chrysler PT Cruisers? Who is collecting an uncool car that hasn’t reached collector status?

Social media’s reaction to this weird car collection does not disappoint

As usual, social media has not disappointed in delivering shocked and hilarious reactions to the fleet of red PT Cruisers.

The following are a few comments from a 2020 Facebook post by Things That Are Not Aesthetic, a media critic who shared the photo with the caption, “I’ve never been more terrified of anything in my life”:

“This is 1 working car and 4 parts cars. This is what it takes to keep a Chrysler running.”

“Not supposed to feed your PT Cruisers after midnight. And NEVER get them wet.”

“It was a ‘buy 4 get 1 free’ Black Friday deal.”

This past October, X user @sug_knight shared the photo with the caption, “If I win the lottery, I won’t say anything, but there will be signs.” The comments poured in:

“Lottery winners do tend to have terrible taste, so this tracks.”

“Used to drive a PT Cruiser many, many years ago. Pain is all I remember.”

“This picture is pure horror.”

“Me but like with Furbies.”

Where is the house with all the red PT Cruisers?

Unfortunately, we couldn’t verify the location, who owns the home, or the photo’s authenticity. This image could be a photoshopped prank that has become extremely irreverent, especially when you see the comments.

Why is this car collection so strange?

If your neighbor had a collection of classic Chevy Corvettes, you might not think anything was weird unless all were the same model painted the same color. The bizarre nature of the collection in question begins with the Chrysler PT Cruiser and ends with every example wearing the same red metallic paint color.

A brief history of the Chrysler PT Cruiser

The first version of the PT Cruiser arrived for the 2001 model year, following the Plymouth Prowler that had begun production in 1997. The PT Cruiser brought the Prowler’s retro style and an impressively large cabin to the market in a new car with a unique look.

It was based on the Neon platform. This platform had to be reworked to allow the new Chrysler car to be classified as a truck, which helped corporate average gas mileage. Upon its debut, the PT Cruiser offered three trims: Base, Touring, and Limited. In the United States, the car packed a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 150 hp, sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

Although new for 2001, this Chrysler car lasted only until 2010. Poor build quality and low fuel economy numbers led to a steep sales decline over the vehicle’s final few production years.

Though we can’t answer why a fleet of red PT Cruisers would be parked outside a home, we can offer you more about the Chrysler PT Cruiser here.
