The Cost of the 2024 Nissan GT-R Doesn’t Match the Automaker’s Reputation
The 2024 Nissan GT-R is among the best sports cars on the market. However, the price has ballooned to well over $100k, which most would agree is incredibly expensive for a Nissan. Of course, Nissan limits production, but the sales are still incredibly low. This was also true for the 2023 Nissan GT-R. However, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette, one of its rivals, is thriving and costs much less.
The 2024 Nissan GT-R is among the best sports cars despite low sales
There’s quite a bit to love about the 2024 Nissan GT-R, but it and the 2023 model have not been huge sellers. In fact, the car hasn’t seen real success since 2015, when it sold over 100,000 units. However, this is also a decrease from other years from the lineup. According to Good Car Bad Car, the Nissan GT-R only sold 391 units in 2023 and a meager 76 in 2024. This represents a decrease from this time last year.
By comparison, the Chevrolet Corvette sold 34,354 units in 2023 and has already sold 8,576 in 2024. Of course, there is a pretty stark price difference between the two. The Nissan starts at $121,090, whereas the iconic Chevrolet Corvette has an MSRP of $68,300. These are both among the best sports cars, but it seems odd that the GT-R would be priced so much higher than the Corvette.
The Nissan GT-R isn’t a cheap car to make. This means its high price tag makes sense, considering how few models it sells. However, the problem is that most buyers don’t trust Nissan enough to spend over $100k on one of its vehicles. Sure, Nissan vehicles have become more reliable. However, there have been notable issues that still deter some buyers from even its more affordable models.
The GT-R is a well rounded car
Much like the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette, the Nissan GT-R is one of the best sports cars because it’s well-rounded. It comes standard with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged engine that makes 565 horsepower and has a torque of 467 lb-ft. However, those wanting more power can go for the NISMO powertrain, which has a maximum output of 600 horsepower with a torque of 481 lb-ft.
Regarding speed, both the 2023 and 2024 Nissan GT-R models get from 0 to 60 miles per hour in the sub-three-second range. This is comparable to the 2023 and 2024 Chevrolet Corvette.
This is also one of the best sports cars because of its interior. It uses an eight-inch infotainment screen that works with Apple CarPlay and includes built-in navigation. The 2024 GT-R also comes standard with an 11-speaker Bose system. However, it doesn’t offer the same level of features as other cars that cost the same. In general, the GT-R is solid, but it’s a hard sell at its price point.
