The Chevy Colorado is the American automaker’s popular midsize pickup truck, but its sales are trailing behind the Toyota Tacoma. With that being said, Chevy gave the model a complete redesign for the 2023 model year, and this may help close the gap in sales between the two trucks. Here’s a look at the 2023 Chevy Colorado and why some consider it one of the best redesigned trucks of 2023.

This is what the last generation of the Chevy Colorado looked like

HotCars created a list of the best redesigned SUVs and trucks for 2023, and the Chevy Colorado ended up in seventh place. The truck’s last generation debuted in America for the 2015 model year, but it’s actually older than that. The Detroit-based automaker started producing the last generation of the truck in 2011 for foreign markets. As a result, the last generation was very outdated compared to its rivals.

This was especially true in terms of its visual design, as well as its features. For example, the 2022 version came standard with a 7-inch touchscreen display. It also had a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. Like many other trucks, Chevrolet offered cab and bed options. It came with a crew or an extended cab, and its truck bed could be 5 or 6 feet long.

Chevy changed a lot about the brand-new Colorado

HotCars ranked the Chevrolet Colorado’s redesign highly because almost everything improved about the midsize truck compared to its previous generation. Its body was redesigned, and its interior also got a new look. The truck looks more modern in both areas, especially in terms of its interior design and tech. For example, instead of a 7-inch touch screen, all Colorados now come with an 11.3-inch touch screen and an 8-inch digital gauge cluster display as standard.

Chevy has also changed its options around. Owners only have one cab and bed option, as every Colorado comes with the crew cab and the 5-foot short bed. The truck’s powertrain options have also been revamped. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder with 237 horsepower. That’s significantly more than what the old base engine provided.

The Detroit-based automaker also killed off the diesel engine that it used to offer. Instead, the most powerful engine option is also a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder, but its power output increased to 310 hp. That said, Chevy also changed the pricing of the truck. It used to start at around $26,000, but with the redesign, it now starts at about $30,600.

The Cadillac Escalade V is the best redesigned SUV or truck of the year

HotCars gave the Cadillac Escalade V’s redesign first place as the automaker took the luxury SUV and made it even better. Cadillac redesigned the regular Escalade for the 2021 model year, but the Escalade V came a few years later. It was revealed in 2022 and debuted for the 2023 model year. The big thing that the Escalade V brings to the table is under the hood.

The luxury SUV has a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. This powerful V8 gets 682 hp, much higher than the 420 hp that the regular Escalade gets. This powertrain allows the Escalade V to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. That’s a competitive time compared to sports cars. Unlike sports cars, though, the Escalade V is a full-size luxury SUV with three rows of seats and $150,000 worth of luxury features.
