Buying a 2019 Nissan Armada Isn’t a Terrible Idea If You’re Certain Type of Driver

The 2019 Nissan Armada has a few notable flaws. It’s a brutish gas guzzler with some dated finishings. But if you’re searching for a used SUV that goes against the grain, so to speak, the Nissan Armada is a worthy choice.

2019 Nissan Armada specs

Nissan’s Armada packs a considerable punch. Armadas come with a 390-hp, 5.6-liter V8 engine linked to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The V8 hustles with ease and provides plenty of passing power. It’s standard with rear-wheel drive; some models will have four-wheel drive.

The Armada is an excellent choice if you plan on hauling some serious weight. When properly equipped, this Nissan can tow up to 8,500 pounds. But as we touched on earlier, fuel-economy isn’t a highlight of the Armada performance-wise. Armadas with 2WD have an EPA rating of 16 mpg overall. Opting for a model with 4WD reduces fuel efficiency by a point.

Another downside to the Armada’s performance is its clumsy handling. This isn’t surprising for a truck-based SUV. On the flip side, you’ll appreciate the Armada’s relatively quiet engine, ride comfort, and off-road capability.

“Instead of imitating the boxy and costly stalwarts of this popular segment, the 2019 Nissan Armada breaks the mold—sort of. After all, it’s still a big-bodied, fuel-thirsty family dreadnought. But the three-row Armada has a serene, expensive interior and an upscale exterior that enable it to undermine high-rent rivals when it comes to price. “

The Armada can seat up to eight people in its regular setup; models with the captain’s chairs configuration accommodates seven. Critics, including Edmunds, recognize the Nissan for its refined cabin that blocks out excess road noise. In addition to its spacious seating, the Armada also pleases with its ample cargo storage.

Base Armadas have cloth upholstery and nice convenience features, including a power-adjustable heated front row, reclining second-row bench, and a 60/40-split third-row, as Edmunds notes. Other helpful gadgets are a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a tow hitch receiver. Plus, Nissan made active safety features such as adaptive cruise control standard.

The base infotainment system comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen display, navigation, and a 13-speaker Bose stereo with a CD player. Unfortunately, Nissan didn’t make the 2019 Armada available with advanced infotainment connectivity such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Furthermore, the display’s graphics are a bit outdated. While this is a bummer, you may want to shop the SUV’s higher trims for additional amenities. These include leather upholstery, a driver’s seat with memory functions, a rear-seat infotainment system, and an enhanced 360-degree top-down parking camera with moving object detection and warning.

The 2019 Nissan Armada earned decent reliability ratings as a new model. What adds to peace of mind is that there aren’t a significant amount of owner complaints either. Overall, we’d say the Armada is a good choice for a family SUV with some impressive truck-like capabilities. The MSRP range for a 2019 Armada is $30,550 to $41,625.
