It’s not uncommon for police to arrest a driver during a traffic stop for drugs. In fact, it happens more often than most would assume. However, it is less common for border agents to find drugs hidden inside the gas tanks of vehicles trying to enter the country from the Calexico border. This happened recently, and the people inside the SUV had a large amount of highly dangerous narcotics. 

This situation was far more intense than a traffic stop

According to KSEQ, agents at the Calexico border recently made the discovery of a vehicle concealing more than 250 pounds of liquid meth. The report says the driver was a 52-year-old and that there was a 46-year-old passenger. They were trying to get into the country while driving a 2002 SUV. Naturally, there was an inspection, and then the agents referred the two people for a secondary examination. Much of this can be thought of as a traffic stop. 

The second inspection surveyed the vehicle more than the first. This one used “non-intrusive” technology to scan the SUV. During this part of the so-called traffic stop, the border agents noticed that the gas tank seemed to have been tampered with. After asking for assistance, a drug-sniffing dog alerted that narcotics were present in the vehicle. 

This part of the “traffic stop” saw the border agents finding 254.85 pounds of liquid meth inside the gas tank. This was confirmed by a test of the substance. Of course, they detained the two people and then turned them over to Homeland Security. It’s clear that they were attempting to traffic the drugs.
