‘You could unalive someone’ Beware of this dangerous Nissan Rogue feature
As the spooky season ramps up, there’s a scary SUV feature with an important public service announcement attached. The owner of a 2025 Nissan Rogue points out an unusual design feature that could potentially increase the risk of accidents.
2025 Nissan Rogue features you need to know about
Congratulations to TikTok user @junepenny for getting a 2025 Nissan Rogue! But she’s taking a moment from the honeymoon period with her new SUV to warn others.
The gear shifter features a modern design, which is extremely common in new cars. You hit the brake and pull the lever back to put it in drive. In older vehicles, you push it forward to put it in park.
However, the Rogue has a park button on top of the shifter. Now, if you push it forward to place it in park as most people are used to doing, you actually put it in reverse.
When that happens and you think you’re in park, you could roll backwards. June filmed the potential situation to display the danger. You could hit a pedestrian or fellow driver behind you.
June admits that the feature is easy to get used to. However, she did accidentally put the car in reverse a few times. Honestly, I did the same thing when I last reviewed a 2025 Nissan Rogue model.
Also, the parking assist feature prevented her from backing into another car with an abrupt stop. I’ve reached out to junepenny to see if she’s come across any other wonky characteristics.
How to put the Rogue in park
Nissan USA shared a few helpful parking tips. Before using the electronic shift level, make sure to apply the brake. Press the P (Park) button to place the Nissan Rogue in park.
Park is automatically engaged if you switch off the ignition or if you remove your seatbelt and open the driver’s door while in Reverse, Neutral, or Drive.
Also, the Neutral Hold mode function allows you to exit the SUV in the N (Neutral position). Hold the brake pedal, release the electronic parking brake, push the P (Park) button, and slide the shift lever into N.
Then hold it for 0.5 seconds until N appears on the vehicle information display. Then shift to N again and hold it until “Neutral Hold Mode has been activated” appears on the display.
Sorry to be THIS person, but don’t people read their car manuals anymore?! They’re full of helpful information like this!
