The new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is the biggest SUV in the automaker’s lineup. The Grand Wagoneer is the more expensive, XL version of the standard model. For the Wagoneer, there are a number of different trim levels available that include varying features and technology. MotorTrend believes one of them is the best and stands out above the rest. So what is the best trim and what kind of features does it include?

The Wagoneer is an expensive SUV, but luckily the bulk of what people need in an SUV like this is included in one of the cheaper models. The Wagoneer Series II base model starts at nearly $69,000 which makes it the cheapest Wagoneer and still cheaper than other SUVs. The Series II comes only with rear-wheel drive, but most people can live without four-wheel drive anyway. For those reasons, MotorTrend believes the base option to be the best option when purchasing a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer.

What’s included in a Wagoneer Series II?

No Wagoneer comes without a powerful engine. The Series II is equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 mild hybrid capable of producing up to 392-horsepower. Though the rear-wheel drive is standard, four-wheel drive is available on even this trim level. Its towing capacity is 10,000 pounds, which beats out the competition, like the 2021 Ford Expedition, which can only tow up to 9,300 pounds.

Speaking of towing capability, the Wagoner also comes standard with trailer sway control, and four-wheel-drive models also receive five traction control settings. Other standard features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and parking sensors.

The exterior comes standard with a power liftgate, 20-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, LED headlights, daytime running lights, foglights, and taillights. Keyless entry and remote start are standard with every 2022 Jeep Wagoneer as well.

Does this base model have technology?

The Wagoneer has plenty to offer in the way of fun tech features. A standard 10.1-inch touchscreen and 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster are displayed across the front dashboard. Drivers can listen to their favorite music through the nine-speaker Alpine audio system. There are also eight total USB ports throughout all three rows of seats.

With plenty of interior capability and comfort, you likely won’t feel the need to upgrade above this trim level. The Series II provides plenty of luxurious features and functionality, even more than the competition in some cases. Though options like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, or GMC Yukon have a significantly smaller starting price than the Wagoneer.

How much does the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Series II cost?

The rear-wheel-drive model of the Jeep Wagoneer starts at $70,000. Adding four-wheel drive will add another $3,000 onto the price, and it only gets higher from there. The Wagoneer Series II only has one available color, Bright White, before needing to add another $595 onto the price tag. That puts the Series II with 4WD and any color other than white immediately up to $73,595.

Compared to other automakers’ similarly sized and equipped SUVs, it’s rather expensive. The 2022 GMC Yukon starts at $51,600 and includes many of the same features as the Wagoneer, as does its platform partner, the Chevrolet Tahoe. Both of these options don’t include such high-quality interior materials or infotainment, but for a $20,000 discount that’s something most can live without.

MotorTrend calls the base Series II trim of the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer the best option. Though the size and many of the features are easily found on more affordable alternatives, the Wagoneer has its positives. The 10 available equipment packages add a lot to the Wagoneer, including cost. The Series III starts at $75,000, and adding 4WD drive will put it up to a $78,000 starting point. For the most part, the important things are covered in the cheaper trim, and that’s good because the cheaper trim level is still pretty expensive.
