Looking for a used car or SUV that people seem to enjoy driving? According to consumers, these are the best 2020 family SUVs. Each year, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) helps determine which vehicles have given owners fewer problems in the first few months of ownership. Vehicles participating in the IQS get a score that shows the number of problems per 100 vehicles, or PP100. These family-friendly SUVs check all of the boxes.

People seem to trust the opinion of those at J.D. Power, even if the 2020 Nissan Armada isn’t an obvious choice. In other parts of the world, the Armada goes by the name Nissan Patrol. It is equally as popular under that name, perhaps even more well-known. According to J.D. Power and consumers, the 2020 Armada provided a stress-free ownership experience. The PP110 score for the Armada came in at 115. This family-friendly SUV does everything with room for eight people and 390 hp from the engine. It has four different trim options to choose from, which should fit most budgets.

Check out the smaller but still roomy Nissan Murano

You might want to take another look at the 2020 Nissan Murano. All of the options received a 260 hp V6 engine, but buyers could opt for front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Thanks to Nissan’s Nissan’s Safety Shield 360, the 2020 Murano has plenty of safety features included standard. Buyers might want to opt for something above the base level to get all the best safety features. For this version, the PP100 score came in at 134 problems per 100 vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave this family-friendly SUV a five-star safety rating.

You might be able to find a good deal on the family-friendly Kia Sorento

Just before it received a significant redesign, the 2020 Kia Sorento slid in under the radar. Kia offered this family SUV in five different trim levels and two engine choices, a 185-hp four-cylinder or a 290-hp V6. While it might look more compact, the Sorento actually has room for seven passengers. According to the J.D. Power IQS, the 2020 Kia Sorento had a PP100 score of 136. That was high enough to snag a J.D. Power Initial Quality award in the upper midsize SUV segment. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave this Kia SUV the Top Safety Pick for 2020.

If you still want a fast option, check out the performance versions of the Dodge Durango

The 2020 Dodge Durango still had room for seven passengers, even though it is a midsize SUV option. Buyers could opt for a V6 or V8 engine and pick from front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Plus, the new R/T and SRT models mean this family SUV is fast. Perhaps too fast for some with a zero to 60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, thanks to its 475 hp Hemi V8 engine. This year, the Dodge Durango got a PP100 score of 138, which tied it with the Chevy Blazer.

While the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) gives good insight into the best SUVs for families in 2020, these aren’t the only options. However, finding a reliable family SUV means paying more attention to safety and seating options.
