Before you settle on the 2021 Chevy Trax, consider better options. The 2021 Chevrolet Trax continues to find itself ranking at the bottom of lists as rivals like the 2020 Nissan Kicks and 2021 Hyundai Kona steal the show.

Avoid the 2021 Chevy Trax

The U.S.News ranked the 2021 Chevy Trax as number 12 on their list of Best Subcompact SUVs. It didn’t come in the last place, but it sits near the bottom as the Jeep Renegade, Buick Encore, and more rank higher.

Only two options, the 2020 Toyota C-HR and 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander, ranked below the 2021 Chevy Trax due to their own problems. But just because the Trax ranked higher than two other options doesn’t make it worth buying.

What’s so bad about the 2021 Chevy Trax?

We’re surprised to see the 2021 Chevy Trax. We thought the new 2021 Chevy Trailblazer was coming out to replace it. But only the premier trim of the Chevy Trax was discontinued for this model year.

If you need a cheap car, the 2021 Chevy Trax fits the bill with a starting price of about $21,400. But the Nissan Kicks begins even lower with a starting price of around $19,070, and the Hyundai Kona starts around $20,300.

But the Chevy Trax isn’t your best option for saving on fuel. It only gets up to 28 mpg in the city and up to 31 mpg on the highway. Those numbers sound good, but the EPA estimates that the Nissan Kicks gets up to 36 mpg on the highway.

Also, part of the reason why the U.S.News ranked the Chevy Tracks so low is because of its weak engine. It only comes with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque.

According to CarIndigo, the Chevy Trax is only able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 9.3 seconds. So don’t expect it to do well at passing others on the highway or pulling into traffic quickly.

Disappointing 2021 Chevy Trax features

Another reason why the U.S.News gave the Chevy Trax such a pitiful ranking is because the ride is rigid, and the seats aren’t exactly comfortable. They mentioned that the seats could use more support, and the interior lacks quality materials.

Edmunds noted the 2021 Chevy Trax had a choppy ride on the highway. The cabin had a noisy ride, and the ride was even rougher in the back seat. Edmunds also mentioned that the tiny backseat could induce claustrophobia.

But the Chevy Trax received positive feedback for being easy to maneuver. Due to its compact size, it’s easy to get in and out of tight spots. This little SUV is most likely best for driving in the city.

You can upgrade to all-wheel-drive if you need the ability to handle snow and other conditions. Also, it is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Another good thing is that it comes with a variety of standard features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision alert, lane-keeping assistance, and more.
