Some criminals will attempt to burn a getaway car to destroy evidence. Typically, an accelerant-fed fire will make short work of a parked car. However, if a would-be arsonist isn’t careful, flammable liquid can easily spread a fire’s path to include things you don’t want to burn– like your legs. Consequently, Australian police officers are looking for two outlaws after a shooting and an arson nearly burned one of them alive.

An Australian criminal got a little close for comfort as he and a cohort attempted to burn their getaway car

Australian police are on the lookout for a pair of men following a shooting in Sydney. The unsuccessful shooting forced the two criminals to attempt an escape using a getaway car. Incidentally, the two men stopped the car and attempted to light it on fire. However, the blaze spread much too quickly for one of the criminals.

The getaway car, obscured from view by a parked Nissan hatchback, burned rapidly. In fact, a little too quickly for the arsonist. A flash of flame caught the criminal by surprise, prompting him to make a run for it on Atkins Avenue in Carramar.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reports one of the criminals may have had a hand in a public shooting in Sydney. Australian police claim to have captured one of the men on camera at multiple locations. Fortunately, the attempted shooting resulted in no injuries, just damage to a parked car and a nearby home.

Furthermore, police in the area are urging the two criminals to turn themselves in. Police Detective Superintendant Rob Toynton issued a strong warning to the men. “We’re going to come after you, because we’ve got strong evidence which is going to link you to the scene. So the best option is to come forward now.” One thing is for sure, they’re not getting anywhere in that crispy getaway car. Oh, and lighting yourself on fire doesn’t seem like a helpful tactic.
