You should have the right equipment when heading out into the wilderness on an off-road adventure. Many could argue that the GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition and Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison are the right equipment, and they would be correct. Still, you might need to pull one of your companions out of trouble, which is when a front bumper-mounted winch can be useful.

These special trucks come with the right stuff

When the American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) team got their grubby paws on these two GM trucks, a pair of off-road gems resulted. Both trucks feature special front bumpers equipped to accept a winch, but neither comes with the item. Most off-road vehicles don’t come with a winch, so that’s not a problem.

Many off-road vehicles don’t have special bumpers ready to accept a winch kit. Still, the GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition and Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison have special bumpers to make adding a winch much easier.

What does AEV offer for winch installation?

AEV now offers a winch installation kit to add the GM Accessories winch to these two off-road-focused trucks. This winch kit makes adding a winch to the half-ton 1500 models and the heavy-duty HD trucks much easier. This kit includes:

  • 2mm-thick zinc e-coated winch solenoid mounting bracket
  • License plate mounting bracket
  • AEV winch hook isolator
  • Associated hardware

AEV specifically designed this kit for its steel bumpers equipped on these GM off-road trucks.

What GM Accessories winch works best with this installation kit?

The heavy-duty models of these GM trucks can use the GM Accessories 12.5 ComeUp winch kit to give these trucks the desired recovery power. The half-ton models use the GM Accessories 9.5 ComeUp winch kit.

AEV put them to the test to ensure these winch installation kits and the winches would work for these trucks. This testing ensured proper engine cooling with the winch installed at the front of the trucks.

How much and how long does it take to install the winch and kit

The AEV website prices the light-duty winch kit at $349 and the heavy-duty kit at $499. The website also states installation is considered moderately difficult, with an estimated install time of seven hours. For owners without this much time and patience, a GM service center could be the best option to have the winch installed properly.

Once the new AEV winch installation kit and GM Accessories winch are on the front of your GMC Sierra AT4X or Chevy Silverado, you’ll be winching with delight during your next off-road adventure.
