Luxury sports cars aren’t usually a budget vehicle, and there certainly isn’t a cheap Porsche. However, the Porsche 718 Boxster is one of the less expensive ways to buy a luxury convertible. U.S. News & World Report ranks the 2020 718 Boxster as the No. 1 luxury sports car and the No. 1 luxury convertible. It even ranks it higher than the Porsche 911. Car and Driver named it one of the “Best New Convertibles of 2020.” Here’s a look at what the 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster has to offer.

There aren’t any cheap Porsches

Porsche currently offers six different vehicles. They have starting prices ranging from $52,100 for the Macan to $103,800 for the Taycan. The Porsche 718 series is available in six different models. The 718 Cayman is the least expensive one, starting at $59,900, but it’s not a convertible, though it is quite similar to the Boxster.

The least expensive convertible Porsche is the 2020 718 Boxster, which starts at $62,000. Other Boxster models include the 718 Boxster S, 718 Boxster T, 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, and 718 Spyder. Their starting prices range from $71,000 to $97,300.

Driving the 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster

The 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster has great agility since it’s well balanced between the weight in the front and back of the car. Its engine is even mounted near the center of the car. It has what U.S. News calls “razor-sharp handling” and “spry acceleration.”

Its standard engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that generates 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine is able to go from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.9 seconds, which isn’t as fast as the Porsche 911 but is similar to other competitors. The 718 Boxster has a top track speed of 170 MPH. Two other engines are available on the more expensive 718 Boxsters.

The engine is paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The automatic transmission is able to make very quick shifts.

Features of the 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster

The 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster offers a comfortable cabin with top-quality materials. While it will increase the price, buyers are able to customize much of the interior of the car. The 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster comes standard with partial leather upholstery, a power-folding soft top, sport seats, plus a rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors. There are a number of optional features for the seats, including full leather upholstery, upgraded seats, power-adjustable seats, heated seats, and ventilated seats.

The car seats two people but also features two trunks: one in the front and one in the rear. Both are pretty small spaces though. The front space contains 5.3 cubic feet, while the rear trunk holds 4.4 cubic feet. All trims have a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, satellite radio, an eight-speaker stereo, and HD Radio. Apple CarPlay, navigation, voice recognition, and 10- or 12-speaker audio systems are available.

Driver assistance features that are available include blind-spot monitoring, adaptive headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, and adaptive cruise control. Other optional features include proximity keyless entry, a heated steering wheel, and LED headlights. Performance options include torque vectoring steering or speed-sensitive steering, a lowered adaptive suspension, and ceramic composite brakes.

For Porsche lovers who are looking to have the wind in their hair as they drive down the road, the 2020 Porsche 718 Boxster may be the way to go. This convertible is one of the less expensive Porsches available, and it is a highly rated luxury sports car that is fantastic to drive.
