What do you do when 702 horsepower isn’t enough in a truck? Well, a Ram dealer has the answer: add more power (and bigger wheels). A Ram truck dealer in Iowa has upgraded the already monstrous Ram 1500 TRX truck to an insane 787 horsepower and is calling it the Tyrant to make what could be the ultimate, for now, Ram TRX available. Look out, Ford Raptor R.

What is the Ram TRX Tyrant?

The TRX Tyrant is the brainchild of Granger Motors, a Ram dealer in Granger, Iowa. Basically, the dealer created the $14,995 Tyrant package to, presumably, not just build the fasted TRX, but to trump the new Ford Raptor R. The details on the truck are this:

787 horsepower
702 lb-ft of torque
20-inch wheels with 37-inch tires
Power retractable running boards
3 year/36,000-mile warranty

The supercharger sound is insane on the TRX Tyrant

Granger is also selling just the motor kit for $7,995. And, yes, it still has a warranty.

The truck showed up in several YouTube videos with details of the specs and running footage of the Tyrant. About all you can hear in one is the supercharger whine, which shoves more air into the engine, spooling up to ungodly RPMs. While there has been talk at Muscle Cars & Trucks and on Ram forums of Ram putting Dodge Demon engines, or even a Hellephant crate motor in TRX trucks, so far Ram has not confirmed any of that. So, the Tyrant may be the quickest TRX you can find at a dealer, even if the completed truck does cost $94,000.

It’s here to take on the 2023 Ford Raptor R

The new Ford F-150 Raptor R will bring some serious power to the truck game when it arrives. Ford says the Raptor R ditches the powerful twin-turbo V6 for a 5.2-liter supercharged V8, an engine that consumers have been asking for. The original Raptor was the baddest factory truck on dirt until the TRX came out with 250 more horsepower for 2021. The new Raptor R should have the same trick suspension setup as the regular Raptor, but with the new power, it should be at least on par with the TRX.

The Ram TRX took Ram’s award-winning 1500 truck body and then swapped out the motor for a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. The truck makes 702 horsepower and, according to Ram, can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. The truck also has trick shocks, a wider body, and something called “jump detection technology,” that makes sure the engine doesn’t crater when all four wheels are off the ground. The new for 2023 Sandblast edition will set you back more than $100,000.
