Sometimes, owning a Toyota Tacoma can be a great experience. But these trucks aren’t literal tacos, so they can’t make everyone happy. One owner decided to take the time to explain the top five things he hates about his pickup.

The top five worst things about owning a Toyota Tacoma

TikTok user and Toyota Tacoma owner @camwalk3r hasn’t had a great time with his truck. Here are some complaints you need to consider before buying.

1. This truck is slow

Cam starts off by criticizing how slow the Tacoma is, especially if you have a lift and larger wheels. Apparently, it’s not even funny. However, he didn’t share which model year he owns or which engine his truck has.

      2. The mid-size truck is thirsty

Next, he complains about the gas mileage with the Toyota Tacoma. Cam is getting about 14 mpg, which doesn’t seem too shocking for an older, lifted truck.

        3. The lack of space

It’s true, the Tacoma has a tight cabin. There isn’t much space to work with. He’s 6’3”, and I’m 5’1”, so while he squeezes into the driver’s seat, I have plenty of room.

But trucks aren’t made for short chicks; I’m supposed to feel like I have all the space in the world. Also, I agree with Cam about the backseat being too tiny. My legs hit the back of the seat in front of me.

          4. Adding a lift is expensive

Cam complains that to get a lift with a comfortable ride quality then you have to spend a lot of money. This feels universal for truck owners.

But he wants more than comfort; he wants space of mind with his coilovers, spindles, and new uppers. Cam admits that he’s a pavement princess and for the tires to actually work off-road, he would have to spend ‘a ton of money’.

Reportedly, when he goes down the road, it feels like his wheels are going to fly off.

            5. You have to spend more for larger tires

The Toyota Tacoma is a small truck, making it difficult to add larger tires. You have to get a significant lift to avoid rubbing. He has a 6” lift and 35s, but can’t imagine running 37s.

              How fast is the Tacoma?

It looks like Cam’s Toyota Tacoma is from the previous generation. The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine cranks out 180 hp and  180 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 10 seconds. That’s pretty slow.

With the 3.5-liter V6 engine, you get 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. This engine helps the Tacoma hit 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, which is fine for a mid-size truck.

How many mpg does the Taco truck get?

According to Edmunds, the 2023 Toyota Tacoma gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway.

Bigger tires may decrease your mpg due to increased vehicular weight, higher rolling resistance, altered gearing, and require more engine power.

How much does lifting a Toyota Tacoma cost?

There are so many different lift kits available for the Toyota Tacoma. A six inch lift can cost between $1,099.95 to over $3,000. Then there’s the cost of having it installed by a professional to consider.

Some owners do pair 37-inch tires with a six-inch lift kit with coil-overs, but this does require cab mount chopping and a re-gear.
