The 2022 Rivian R1T is America’s first electric pickup truck. The Blue Oval is producing its first electric F-150. Here’s why the Rivian R1T is a better buy than the Ford F-150 Lightning.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is a real off-road pickup truck

The 2022 Rivian R1T is built for adventure. The Ford F-150 may be able to handle some mild off-road trails, but it’s not designed to take on outdoor obstacles.

The Rivian R1T uses an independent air suspension that allows the electric pickup truck to raise and lower its ride height at the driver’s will. Drivers can adjust their R1T’s height while driving by switching to different driving modes.

These suspension adjustments change the truck’s ride quality and driving dynamics to suit different driving scenarios. The R1T Launch Edition features eight unique driving modes. It has a whopping 14.5 inches of ground clearance. That’s tough to beat. The R1T has even conquered Hell’s Gate in Moab, Utah.

The Rivian R1T is torquier than the F-150 Lightning

Who doesn’t enjoy a torquey truck? The R1T Launch Edition produces a mind-blowing 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque. The F-150 Lightning Platinum has a max power output of 563 horses and 775 lb-ft of torque.

The Rivian R1T Launch Edition is quicker than any Ford F-150 Lightning configuration. Speed and power are important factors in picking an electric full-size pickup truck. Rivian and Ford have both produced exciting EVs, but one electric pickup is clearly more exciting to drive than the other, thanks to its insane horsepower and torque.

The R1T Launch Edition is cheaper than the F-150 Lightning Platinum

The R1T Launch Edition is actually cheaper than the F-150 Lightning Platinum. The 2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition starts at $85,000. The Lightning Platinum is nearly $100,000.

The R1T Explore is in the same price range as the F-150 Lightning Lariat. The R1T Explore is more powerful than the F-150 Lightning Lariat as well.

The 2022 Rivian R1T isn’t affordable to the average consumer, but it provides incredible value for its price. The R1T Explore starts at $67,500. The Launch Edition is currently the only R1T trim level available. The more affordable Explore trim could make major waves in the industry when it’s released.

Rivian’s truck is better for camping

If you regularly enjoy camping or glamping, then the Rivian R1T is the obvious choice over the Ford F-150 Lightning. The electric truck comes with a gear tunnel. Accoridng to MotorTrend, the gear tunnel has 11.6 cubic feet of volume. The gear tunnel’s side doors can hold up to 250 pounds, so people can cop a squat on them if they ever need a seat while camping.

Rivian offers packages that transform the gear tunnel into a camp kitchen, adding accessories like a two-burner induction cooktop and 30-piece kitchen set. The R1T is full of surprises.
