The first advantage of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek over the 2023 Honda HR-V is the Crosstrek has higher gas mileage than the HR-V. Many drivers are feeling financial pain at the pump with expensive gasoline these days. However, the high fuel economy of the Crosstreks helps alleviate this burden.

The fully gas-powered 2023 Crosstrek has an estimated gas mileage of up to 30 mpg, compared to 28 combined mpg for the HR-V. Also, for even greater efficiency, the Crosstrek offers a plug-in hybrid model. The Crosstrek Hybrid has an estimated fuel economy of up to 35 mpg in hybrid mode and 90 MPGe in electric mode. Also, the Crosstrek Hybrid has an estimated electric-only driving range of 17 miles.

While there’s a hybrid version of the HR-V in Europe — in the United States, only a fully gas-powered model is available.

Additionally, the Crosstrek has considerably higher ground clearance than the HR-V (up to 8.6 vs. 7.3 inches). High ground clearance is helpful for driving over rugged terrain. Also, to protect the vehicle from the punishment that it takes while driving off-road, the Crosstrek has cladding on the exterior.

Unlike the Honda HR-V, the Subaru Crosstek is rated for towing

The third advantage of the 2023 Crosstrek over the 2023 HR-V is, unlike the HR-V, the Crosstrek is rating for towing. No one will confuse the Crosstrek for being a towing powerhouse like a full-size pickup truck or SUV. However, its 1,500-pound maximum towing capability at least provides some towing capabilities.

With a 1,500-pound towing capacity, the Crosstrek can tow such things as a flatbed trailer, a snowmobile, jet skis, an A-frame camper, a teardrop camper, a canoe, and a small aluminum boat.

2023 Crosstrek provides more passenger space than the 2023 HR-V

The extra passenger space makes the biggest difference for the front seats. The Crosstrek has 43.1 inches of front legroom, compared to 41.9 inches for the HR-V.

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek has advantages over the 2023 Honda HR-V for gas mileage, off-road capabilities, towing, and passenger space. When choosing between the two subcompact crossover SUVs, these are key advantages to consider.
