Some Nissan Titan model years have received poor ratings because they require more frequent maintenance than their other models, and this is sometimes very costly to the driver. So what are the worst-used Nissan Titan model years to avoid when car shopping? CarComplaints has pointed out three of the worst Titan modles.

The 2004 Nissan Titan is plagued with several problems

Many complaints were raised about the 2004 Nissan Titan, which is the model year with the most issues. After approximately 100,000 miles, the rear differential on this Titan starts failing, costing the owner roughly $3,700 to fix this problem. Rear differential failure has been reported in many 2004 models, and it is its main problem.

Furthermore, this Titan’s front differential also fails after an average mileage of 101,000, costing its owners $3,300 to repair. Sometimes, both the front and rear differentials on this Titan fail simultaneously, and the owner eventually incurs double the expense.

Another problem with the 2004 Titan is that after 92,000 miles, the exhaust manifolds start to crack, and it’s repair costs $2,000.

Is it costly to maintain a 2005 Nissan Titan?

A 2005 Titan is seemingly no better than the previous year, as it also suffers from several problems. After traveling an average of 78,000 miles, most 2005 models are said to develop rear axle failure, costing their owners $3,100.

Ideally, spending that much money on maintenance each time the vehicle hits 78,000 miles isn’t worth the trouble. According to CarComplaints, this Titan’s antifreeze and transmission fluid sometimes end up mixing after the vehicle has been used for 101,000 miles, which costs the owners $4,200 to repair.

Furthermore, the 2005 Titan will sometimes start to shudder when the brakes are applied after it has attained an average mileage of 15,000 miles. This problem was about $1,200 to fix.

Mechanical problems make the 2018 Titan unbearable

Most of the 2018 Titan’s problems were related to its drivetrain. According to CarComplaints’ data, this is the worst possible Titan to consider buying.

Even when the vehicle hasn’t been in use for long, it has been reported to start vibrating at highway speeds. This problem costs $7,000 to repair and could happen any time. Next, this Titan’s transmission sometimes hesitates before shifting. This problem appeared after an average of 19,000 miles, and repairing this problem costs more than $3,500.

Finally, this model starts to shake and wobble while driving after just 5,000 miles for some owners. This is sometimes due to unbalanced wheels and could cost more than $100 to repair. If a worn drivetrain causes the shaking, it can be fixed by replacing it with a new one.

Replacing a drivetrain for the Titan will cost around $1,200. The 2018 Titan’s problems happen faster and are more costly to maintain, making it a poor choice for a vehicle to buy.
