Kelley Blue Book selected the 2019 Lexus UX as its best subcompact SUV under $50,000. The UX is small but easy to drive for those wanting a Lexus but don’t want a larger SUV. Inside, the interior is luxurious as you would expect from the brand. It also offers good resale value, as you might be able to tell from the list price range.

Buyers could opt for the front-wheel drive UX 200 with 169 hp or the all-wheel drive UX 250h hybrid that adds an electric motor. Kelley Blue Book notes that the Lexus stands out thanks to its comfortable ride and history of reliability. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2019 UX a five-star overall safety rating.

List Price Range: $25,888 – $42,988

Audi’s Q3 is another good pick for small luxury SUVs under $50,000

The 2019 Audi Q3 might look small from the outside, but the inside has a surprising amount of space. For 2019, the Audi SUV received some changes that made it taller, longer, and broader. Kelley Blue Book notes that the Q3 is competitively priced and offers more than some of its rivals.

While it is Audi’s smallest and most affordable sport utility vehicle, it comes with all-wheel drive, a panoramic sunroof, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Audi also includes six airbags, Audi pre-sense basic, pre-sense front with passenger detection, and hill-descent assist. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2019 Q3 its Top Safety Pick Plus award.

List Price Range: $24,888 – $45,995

Check out the BMW X1 sport utility vehicle

Some of the positives Kelley Blue Book noted about the 2020 BMW X1 include its impressive handling, large interior, and reasonable price. Like some of the others on this list, the X1 is more spacious inside than it appears. BMW offered the X1 in two trims: the 2020 BMW X1 sDrive28i and the all-wheel drive xDrive28i. Both options have pretty good resale value.

Active Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control, and Parking Assistant help make the X1 safer. These systems help avoid minor accidents and can help maintain speed during major traffic episodes. BMW’s X1 received a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA and the IIHS, making it a good option for small luxury SUVs under $50,000.

List Price Range: $24,088 – $40,968

Vehicle technology has come a long way in the past few years, which means more standard safety systems for everyone. Depending on your budget, you can find these options for between $30,000 and $50,000.
