Hybrid pickups trucks are gearing up to take over the truck vehicle class. Hybrid vehicles have been stigmatized, but more consumers are warming up to the idea of buying alternatively-fuelled vehicles. Here are three reasons to buy a hybrid pickup truck.

Gas prices are too high

Gas prices have been rising throughout 2021, and today, prices have hit record numbers in certain states. Across the country, drivers are feeling the sting of high gas prices. Trucks typically have the poorest fuel economy in the entire auto industry. If only there were trucks that were designed to conserve gas.

Hybrid pickup trucks use both gas and electricity to optimize fuel efficiency. Regenerative braking stores power for hybrid trucks to use in combination with the energy created by an internal combustion engine. Hybrid powertrains consist of gas engines and electric motors that work to add more power to the vehicle overall and put less strain on the engine.

Buying a hybrid pickup truck is a great way to save money on gas. Since gas prices are reaching historic highs, it’s safe to assume that gas could get even more expensive in the future. Hybrid pickup trucks ultimately slash truck ownership costs by optimizing fuel efficiency to get more range out of less fuel.

There are plenty of great hybrid pickup truck models to choose from

The hybrid pickup truck market is still an emerging market. That being said, plenty of new hybrid trucks have been either announced or released in 2021. There’s never been a better time to purchase a hybrid pickup truck because of the abundance of hybrid trucks on the market.

The 2022 Ford Maverick and 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid are perfect examples of popular pickup truck models that are going green. The 2022 Ford Maverick’s standard hybrid model gets a whopping 42 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. It gets 37 miles per gallon combined, which is mind-blowing for a pickup.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid’s mpg has yet to be revealed, but it will undoubtedly be an improvement from previous thirsty Tundras. The new Tundra Hybrid is also proving that hybrid pickup trucks can be powerful. According to Car and Driver, the 2022 Toyota Tundra’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid system will make a whopping 437 horsepower.

Major automakers are making the shift from gas to hybrid

A hybrid Toyota Tundra is a sign that times are changing for the truck vehicle class. The Tundra is regarded as one of the thirstiest trucks in history, so if it can get a hybrid iteration, any truck can. Ford already has seen success with hybrid powertrains for its truck models.

Most major truck automakers like Ford and Ram have already rolled out successful hybrid models, and other automakers may soon follow the Blue Oval’s footsteps by creating standard hybrid trucks to compete with the Ford Maverick. The days of humongous gas guzzlers are long gone. It’s a new era for pickup trucks, and as automakers embrace it, more consumers will begin to embrace hybrid pickup trucks as well.
