We’re currently in the best time of the year to buy a used SUV. From October to January, you can find excellent deals, attractive incentives, and juicy rebates. There are Christmas deals and solid trade-in values. 

Also, dealerships are attempting to clear out space to make room for brand-new model years. So, it might be an excellent time to strike on an excellent midsize SUV. 

1. 2017 Toyota Highlander 

The 2027 Toyota Highlander is an excellent option with a $25,000 budget. It’s a family-oriented, three-row vehicle with a solid reliability rating from J.D.Power. It earned an 84 out of 100, which is above average. 

With the hybrid engine, you get an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway. Plus, hybrid models have standard AWD. The Highlander is rugged and capable of inclement weather situations. 

The 2017 Highlander can tow up to 5,000 lbs with the V6 engine and has impressive safety ratings. It’s equipped with modern features like forward collision warning and blind spot warning. 

2. 2018 Honda Pilot 

The 2018 Honda Pilot is another budget-friendly option for growing families. It can seat up to eight passengers with a high-quality interior and plenty of comfort amenities. AWD is available, but not standard. 

Also, the 2018 Pilot has a J.D.Power reliability score of 82 out of 100, which is great. It gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 5,000 lbs. 

Plus, this SUV is an Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick. Some models feature adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. 

3. 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe 

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is a newer option on the list, with seating for five. Pricing may vary based on models equipped with the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and the beefier turbocharged 2.0-liter unit. 

It’s the most reliable SUV on this list, with a score of 86 from J.D.Power. It gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 3,000 lbs. Models are available with AWD. 

The Santa Fe is also an IIHS Top Safety Pick. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control.
