After the 2023 Toyota 4Runner was announced without any significant changes, fans started aiming for the 2024 4Runner. At this point, a 4Runner SUV redesign is still up in the air. However, it is getting down to the wire regarding announcements. Looking at the new 2024 Tacoma information, can we read between the lines on the lack of announcement from Toyota?

Will there be a new 4Runner in 2024?

A 2024 4Runner redesign is possible but not confirmed. After the fifth generation 4Runner started in 2009, people assumed the 4Runner would be redesigned every year. Toyota announced the 2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition on May 24, 2022. If the automaker was going to announce a new version, it could come at any moment.

The automaker already announced a totally redesigned 2024 Toyota Tacoma on May 18, 2023. Could Toyota focus on the new Tacoma and the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander? So far, the Grand Highlander is the only SUV listed on the 2024 Toyota lineup. Toyota still has the Highlander, RAV4, Sequoia, and 4Runner to announce. It would be remiss to skip the highly-rumored and massively anticipated return of the Toyota Land Cruiser in 2024 or beyond.

The good news is that another fifth-generation 2024 4Runner has not been announced yet. That means there is still some hope for a redesign.

Based on the pricing of the 2023 4Runner, the 2024 4Runner will likely be between $42,000 and $56,000. That could be a more significant increase if a major revamp materializes. Toyota offers eight trim levels for the current version of the SUV, with even the base trim coming well-equipped. The 4Runner also incurs a $1,335 delivery and processing fee. If each trim increases by $2,000 over the last year, the 2024 4Runner prices could be around the numbers below.

Toyota has not yet released pricing for the redesigned 2024 Tacoma, which will better indicate next year’s pricing structure. Toyota will release pricing closer to the end of the year when the Tacoma hits the market. Hybrid i-FORCE MAX models are slated for early 2024. Even if a 2024 Toyota 4Runner is announced next week, the Tacoma is further along in the news cycle.

Does the Toyota 4Runner come in a hybrid?

All versions of the current Toyota 4Runner receive the same 4.0L V6 engine, which the 2024 4Runner will most likely not get. A hybrid engine is one of the more likely upgrades if any changes are made. The 2024 Tacoma gets a 2.4L turbo four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque.

For the 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter trim, the i-FORCE MAX combines a 2.4L engine with a 48-horsepower electric motor. This offers 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Hopefully, this indicates the 4Runner redesign will mean a hybrid powertrain.

If a 2024 Toyota 4Runner redesign is in the works, an announcement would likely be out sometime this summer. Toyota also has not released information on the 2024 Tundra, which received a significant redesign in 2022. If and when Toyota announces the sixth-generation 4Runner, the community will rejoice. Some people will hate it, but that’s to be expected too.
