The Subaru BRZ, in itself, is a fantastically fun car to drive. Sure, it’s not the most powerful thing on the planet, but that’s not what it’s about. It’s all about inertia with cars like the BRZ. Keep your foot low, your nerves high, and point that nose right through the corner to wind up where you want to be. In base form, the BRZ is phenomenal at what it does. However, STi has taken the BRZ to the next level in the form of the 2024 Subaru BRZ tS.

What is different about the BRZ tS?

Let’s get right into the meat and potatoes. The “tS” in the name stands for “Tuned by STi.” If you’re unfamiliar, STi (Subaru Technica International) is the motorsport and performance division of Subaru, which you’re likely familiar with because of the WRX model. STi has hundreds of podium placements and legendary racing moments from rally to GT racing. So, you can fully expect that the touch of STi is a monumental upgrade for the BRZ.

For one, the 2024 Subaru BRZ tS has Hitachi suspension tuned by STi. In addition, it has Brembo brakes for added stopping power. Four-piston front calipers and two-piston rears, both wearing a coat of gold paint. Finally, the tS features 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires to ensure you’ve got grip for days.

In addition to these performance modifications, the interior also features tS exclusive blue accent stitching and the iconic STi logo on the engine start button. It also has tS exclusive red accenting on the digital instrument cluster.

How fast is the 2024 Subaru BRZ tS?

The tS model shares the same 228-horsepower boxer four-cylinder found in the base models. So, in a straight line, it isn’t any faster. However, if you revisit the first paragraph, you’ll understand that it doesn’t matter. The performance of these cars has always been in the corners. So, the upgraded suspension and brakes with grippy tires are sure to put it ahead of the pack in comparison to its lower-trim brethren.

That being said, the tS is likely to be the most expensive variant of the 2024 Subaru BRZ lineup. So, are the performance upgrades worth the money? If you’re going to actually use the vehicle for track days, autocross, or whatever else, probably. However, if you just want the tS for the fact that it’s a tS, you’re probably better off saving your money and buying a standard model.

Ultimately, the tS is an awesome addition to the lineup, but it’s pretty dang niche. At any rate, we’re still silently crossing our fingers over here for a full-blown STi model. Maybe with some forced induction?
