Today we’re putting the Ford F-150 on the backburner to look at other trucks. The Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 often battle for second place, but the Ram 1500 can’t be stopped. It has been outranking the Silverado for years.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2024 Ram 1500 outranks the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500. The Ram truck has a score of 4.5 out of five while the Silverado has a score of 4.3. Also, the 2024 Ford F-150 is in first place with a score of 4.7.

We know that the F-150 is the top option because it has a variety of engines, trim levels, and available packages to suit different needs. You can get a basic work truck, a beastly off-roader, or a luxurious ride.

But why does the Ram truck outrank the Silverado? It hasn’t been redesigned since 2019, while the Silverado 1500 was revamped in 2022. It’s the more modern option.

Kelley Blue Book provides each vehicle with a score based on how it performs. It spends hours behind the wheel to judge its acceleration, braking, handling, comfort, interior quality, tech, safety features, build quality, reliability, and value.

The Ram 1500 ranks highly for having a comfortable ride quality and quiet interior. In fact, most critics agree that it’s still the most comfortable option.

It also has respectable abilities. It can tow up to 12,750 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,231 lbs. Last but not least, it has tons of cabin storage and passenger space.

But potential reasons to avoid this truck include that it doesn’t have as many options as rivals do. For example, it just discontinued its diesel engine.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 ranks highly for having a strong towing capability. It can tow up to 13,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,290 lbs.

Plus, the Silverado has plenty of options to consider including four engine options and 10 different trim levels. It also has tons of trailering tech such as blind spot coverage and reverse guidance.

But the Silverado rides rougher than its primary rivals and isn’t as capable as the F-150. It doesn’t have a super variant like the Ford F-150 Raptor R or Ram 1500 TRX either.

So the Ram truck wins because it’s more refined and spacious. But the Silverado 1500 is the better choice for towing.
