Kia continued its driver-centric focus on the interior, and all trim levels are pretty well-equipped. The Kia Niro Hybrid has a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and a range of 588 miles. There is also a plug-in hybrid variant with 180 horsepower and an all-electric range of 33 miles.

Finally, there is also a Kia Niro EV with 201 horsepower and 253 miles of all-electric range. With that sort of lineup, there really is a Kia Niro for everyone. Inside the Niro, there are five comfortable seats. For those who want a feature-packed SUV that has a pretty reasonable price, the 2023 Niro makes a lot of sense.

What is the gas mileage for the 2023 Kia Niro?

The 2023 Kia Niro gets excellent fuel economy, with models getting between 49 and 53 mpg combined. Kia uses a parallel hybrid system that pairs a 1.6L engine with an electric motor. The automaker also improved the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for the new version of this affordable hybrid SUV.

All of the Kia Niro trim options get 53 mpg in the city and between 45 and 54 mpg on the highway.

The Niro Hybrid also uses regenerative braking technology for added fuel economy. The trim levels have a 479 to 588-mile projected driving range, far more than most of the competition.

Is the Kia Niro Hybrid safe?

As far as the Kia Niro safety features, all trim levels come pretty well equipped. Forward Collision Avoidance, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Lane Departure Warning come on all trim levels. Kia added Full-Length Side Curtain Airbags, Dual Front Seat-Mounted Side Airbags, and Dual Front Advanced Airbags to every Kia Niro as well.

So far, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not given the 2023 Niro an overall safety rating. The safety group did approve of the included safety technology. However, as a brand-new vehicle with many standard safety systems, the Niro is a safe option.

Beyond the 2023 Kia Niro fuel economy, it is one of the cheapest SUVs in the segment. Kia designed the Niro to be a hybrid vehicle from the ground up, so it didn’t start out as a gasoline version. There are few options out there that offer the value the Niro does, and that doesn’t even include the excellent fuel economy.
