The 2023 Subaru Forester is an SUV that commands great respect. However, the Honda CR-V beats it for one big reason: it includes a hybrid. While hybrids aren’t for everyone, the choice frequently improves performance over the standard model. Luckily, the hybrid powertrain isn’t the only thing that puts the Honda CR-V 2023 over the 2023 Forester.

The 2023 Honda CR-V offers excellent performance with its standard engine, and the hybrid option reaches even greater heights. According to Car and Driver, the hybrid version comes powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. It has a maximum output of 204 hp. The sport version can be front or all-wheel drive, whereas the Sport Touring is only all-wheel drive.

The Honda CR-V Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in only 7.9 seconds. The 2023 Subaru Forester does the 0-to-60 mph test in a less impressive 8.5 seconds. For context, the standard model of the new CR-V takes 8.7 seconds to reach this benchmark. These are both great SUVs, but the CR-V Hybrid option will potentially work better for people wanting more speed.

Fuel economy is better in the 2023 Honda CR-V

The 2023 Honda CR-V has slightly better fuel economy than the Forester 2023. The Honda SUV gets 28 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway. The Forester isn’t far off, with its 26 mpg for city driving and 33 for the road. The CR-V Hybrid gets 43 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

For the sake of comparison, the 2022 Honda CR-V is practically the same regarding fuel economy. However, the new hybrid version is an improvement over the previous model. Most 2023 Subaru Forester trims also have identical fuel economy to its previous models. Both are excellent choices in this regard, but the CR-V having a hybrid form is appealing to many buyers.

Price comparison between the Honda and Subaru SUVs

Unfortunately, the 2023 Honda CR-V is a little more expensive than the 2023 Subaru Forester. The new CR-V starts at $28,410, whereas the new Subaru SUV has a starting price tag of $26,395. However, the hybrid Honda SUV is a bit pricier at $32,400.

Both the new CR-V and the 2023 Forester are great choices for new SUVs. However, the new Honda SUV has some real bragging rights over the Forester. It may be more expensive, but it’s an all-around great vehicle that fits practically all driving needs.
