In the GMC lineup, the Savana nameplate comprises two types of vans. The first is a cargo van, and the other is a passenger van seating up to 15 riders. Regarding the latter, shoppers have two trim levels and wheelbases to choose from. Here are details about the 2023 GMC Savana passenger van and the setup that provides the best value.

Overview of the 2023 GMC Savana passenger van

Consumers can choose between two 2023 GMC Savana passenger van trims. Each also offers an optional extended wheelbase and a 2500 or 3500 heavy-duty model setup.

The two Savana passenger van trims are the LS and LT. The biggest differences between the trims are the luxuries they provide. The base-model LS has front and rear air conditioning, power windows, power locks, an AM/FM stereo with an MP3 player, cruise control, and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel. The higher-trim LT provides additional luxuries such as keyless entry and carpeted floors.

GMC lists the base-model LS 2500 starting at $44,095 and the LT 2500 at $46,195. Moving up to the 3500 heavy-duty setups, the MSRPs are $45,295 for the LS 3500 and $46,995 for the LT 3500.

Buyers can also choose an extended-wheelbase option on the 3500 models, which lengthens the body from 135.2 inches to 155.1 inches. That increases the cargo capacity from 218.5 cubic feet to 255.5 cubic feet. Adding the extended wheelbase adds about $800 to the sticker price of the LS 3500 and LT 3500.

One of the most significant advantages of the 2023 GMC Savana passenger van is that it costs thousands less than its rivals. In addition, it offers two gas-powered engine options: a 4.3-liter V6 and a 6.6-liter V8. Plus, it boasts excellent towing and payload capacity.

However, the 2023 GMC Savana passenger van has a few notable drawbacks. For one, it offers less overall cargo space than its competitors, doesn’t offer a high-roof configuration, and lacks modern infotainment and safety technologies.

Though the 2023 GMC Savana passenger van is superb for hauling large groups of people, there are subtle differences between the trims. The best value will be the one that most closely meets individual buyers’ needs and goals. However, we recommend the LS 3500.

The LS 3500 has fewer amenities than the LT. However, the LS can still carry many people and a payload of up to 3,599 pounds at a lower price.

What’s in store for the Savana lineup?

New GMC Savana vans are still available with internal combustion engines, but that won’t be the case much longer. After dropping the diesel engine option for 2023, General Motors is set to ax the gas engine after the 2025 model year.

The 2025 GMC Savana will likely be the last of the large American-style cargo and passenger vans with an engine. Come 2026, all GMC Savana vans are expected to be battery-electric vans. So time is running out for the gas-powered Savana.
