The Ford Mustang is one of the most beloved sports cars of all time. However, after losing the crown of the best-selling sports car in the United States to the Dodge Challenger in 2021, the Mustang is due for an upgrade. As attention shifts to the recently declared seventh generation debut in September 2022, likely for the 2024 model, the 2023 Ford Mustang should be the last of the sixth generation. Find out what we expect for the release date, price, features, design, and specs of the 2023 Ford Mustang.

The 2023 Ford Mustang will likely hit roads in early 2023. The 2023 Mustang will be available at Ford dealerships throughout the United States, as well as in select international markets. Like the 2022 Mustang, the 2023 Mustang will be built at the Ford Flat Rock plant in Michigan.

How much do we expect the 2023 Ford Mustang to cost?

Ford did not yet provide the price information for the 2023 Mustang. However, the 2023 Mustang will likely cost slightly more than the 2022 Mustang ahead of the 2024 model redesign. The starting price of the 2022 Mustang is $27,470 MSRP for the Coupe models and $32,970 MSRP for the Convertible models.

While Ford did not officially confirm the engine options for the 2023 Mustang, in October 2021, a Ford employee posted on their LinkedIn page about two plug-in hybrid powertrains: a 2.3-liter inline-four version and one with a 5.0-liter V8. Also, Ford filed a patent a few years ago about a twin-motor hybrid system. The front wheels have two electric motors, and the rear wheels feature a gas engine, creating an all-wheel drive hybrid version of the Mustang.

The specs are not yet available for these hybrid powertrains. Also, Ford might not release the hybrid powertrains for the 2023 Mustang. Gear Patrol suggested that they might be available starting in 2025. The site also stated that an all-electric Mustang could be released in 2028, which would replace the gas-powered versions.

In all likelihood, the 2023 Mustang will carryover the engines from the 2022 Mustang:

  • Turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine (EcoBoost): 310 hp; 350 lb-ft of torque
  • Turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine (High-Performance Package): 330 hp; 350 lb-ft of torque
  • 5.0-liter V8 engine (GT): 450 hp; 420 lb-ft of torque
  • 5.0-liter V8 engine (Mach 1): 470 hp; 410 lb-ft of torque
  • Supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine (Shelby GT500): 760 hp; 625 lb-ft of torque

What does the 2023 Ford Mustang look like?

Ford did not yet release any official images of the 2023 Mustang. However, there are spy shots of the next-generation S650 model. It’s difficult to see what the S650 Mustang looks like underneath the camouflage. However, relative to the S550 Mustang, the S650 Mustang appears to have more aggressive styling with a more angular hood, along with modernization of exterior design elements.

Something to keep in mind is that there is no guarantee that Ford will release the S650 Mustang for the 2023 model year. In all likelihood, Ford will wait until the 2024 model year and continue to offer the S550 model for 2023.
