The 2023 model year is the last iteration of the sixth-generation Ford Mustang (S550). However, even with high-horsepower V8s, gas-sipping four-cylinder mills, and convertible tops, the 2023 lineup is missing something. However, most Mustang fans know what’s missing: a Shelby badge like that on a GT500.

Is there going to be a 2023 Shelby GT500?

Unfortunately for fans of the storied Shelby namesake, there will be no factory Shelby GT500 in the 2023 Ford Mustang lineup. That’s a shame; Shelby Mustangs are typically the highest-horsepower, most unhinged versions of the pony car.

2022 was the last year for the S550-generation Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, and it set the bar high for future variations. The range-topping Shelby model produces 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque courtesy of a supercharged 5.2L Predator V8. Power like that requires a solid and judicious transmission, and the GT500 delivers with its seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Moreover, unlike the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Ford’s super stallion is corner-and-track-ready; it will take a corner at up to 1.13 g with the sticky tires in the pricey Carbon Fiber Track Package, per Car and Driver. The now-discontinued premier Ford model is nothing to dismiss.

Are there any Shelby cars in the 2023 Ford Mustang lineup?

In addition to a GT500-shaped hole, there are no other Shelby cars in the 2023 Ford Mustang lineup. The last S550 GT500 was a 2022 model year, and the last high-revving Voodoo V8-powered GT350 hit the streets in 2020.

However, Shelby aficionados can find a different way to add the historic namesake to their S550 Mustang. For instance, the builder’s Las Vegas operation will give a post-facelift S550 the Shelby GT treatment for around $28,995. Of course, owners will have to foot the bill for the base car.

What’s the most powerful 2023 Ford Mustang?

Without a Shelby version, the most powerful 2023 Ford Mustang is the Mach 1. The Mach 1’s Coyote V8 produces 470 horsepower, 10 fewer than the 2021 model. Moreover, the Mach 1 boasts track-ready features like a Tremec manual transmission and aerodynamic bodywork from the Shelby GT500 and GT350.

Will the 2024 Mustang have a GT500?

For now, the 2024 Mustang will go without a GT500 or any other Shelby product. Despite the many styling and design updates for 2024 models, both years go without a Shelby badge or a supercharged V8.

What Mustang trims will be in the 2024 lineup?

The 2024 Ford Mustang lineup will carry over some of the familiar trims from the 2023 and S550 pony cars.

  • EcoBoost Fastback
  • EcoBoost Premium Fastback
  • EcoBoost Premium Convertible
  • GT Fastback
  • GT Premium Fastback
  • GT Premium Convertible
  • Dark Horse

The 2024 offerings ditch the non-Premium Convertibles for the EcoBoost and the GT. Moreover, the all-new 500-horsepower Dark Horse fills the performance-oriented role of the outgoing Mach 1.
