The Tundra is Toyota’s popular full-size pickup, but it’s a pretty old truck. However, the automaker has finally given the model a redesign after over a decade. The 2022 Toyota Tundra features a brand-new powertrain, among other updates. Here’s a look at the latest Toyota Tundra and its i-Force Max engine.

What we know about the 2022 Toyota Tundra so far

The second generation of the Tundra debuted for the 2007 model year, and it has finally come to a close. Toyota is slowly releasing details about the 2022 model, which will launch the third generation of the truck. What’s become pretty clear is that, though the Tundra still looks like a Tundra, it’s received huge improvements on the inside.

For example, it’ll now have a power rear window, and owners will also have the option of adding a moonroof. Additionally, the new Tundra will have a larger infotainment screen, though Toyota has been coy about how big it’ll be. That said, like a few other cars, the Tundra’s new touchscreen seems to be large and vertical. There are other exciting upgrades in the cabin, but the most exciting upgrade is under the hood.

One of the teasers that Toyota has given about the Tundra involves an image of its engine. That engine — the i-Force Max — is exciting for a couple of reasons, and they have to do with power.

How powerful will the i-Force Max be?

The standard engine in a 2021 Toyota Tundra is a 5.7-liter i-Force V8. The i-Force Max should be a dramatic improvement over that standard V8. According to MotorTrend, the 2022 Tundra will debut with two brand-new engine options. The optional engine, in particular, is supposed to be pretty amazing, at least according to Toyota.

In any case, the first engine is the i-Force Max. It will probably be the Tundra’s standard engine, and it’ll probably be a twin-turbocharged V6. On the other hand, the optional engine will likely be the Hybrid Max, which MotorTrend said could be a powerful hybrid option. Though little is known about the i-Force Max, it’s possible to look at similar engines available on other Toyota models.

For example, the Land Cruiser has a similar engine, and it produces 409 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. If the new Tundra gets those specs, they would be a huge improvement over the old Tundra’s V8. As far as efficiency goes, that’s also up in the air. Because so little is known about the 2022 Tundra, it would be impossible to get a fuel mileage number until Toyota releases the official numbers. That said, the Hybrid Max engine option should definitely be more efficient than usual.

What else do we know about the brand-new Toyota Tundra?

Unfortunately for fans, not much else is known about the 2022 Tundra right now. Toyota is taking its time in trickling out bits of information. So it’s not currently known when the new truck will come out. Obviously, though, because it’s a 2022 truck, it can’t be too far away.

As for pricing, that’s also an unknown. There are some estimates, however. The new Tundra likely won’t cost much more than the previous model. One possible price point, therefore, is about $35,000. The higher trims, on the other hand, could cost up to $55,000. However, this is all speculation, as Toyota has yet to release pricing as of this writing.
