According to Edmunds, the CX-5 Turbo costs $37,975. It’s also the first version of the crossover to come with a standard turbocharged engine that makes 227 horsepower. Only these two trims have the turbo engine under the hood, while all others use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 187 horsepower. Is the upgraded engine worth paying all the extra money for?

Alternatively, the Turbo Signature is basically an upgraded version of the Turbo. However, that comes with a higher price point. Moreover, you’ll owe $40,225 for a 2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Signature. The same turbo engine is under the hood, but, in the words of Edmunds, this version “goes all-in on luxury appointments.” Is it worth buying the upgraded version of the CX-5 Turbo?

Along with the better engine, the Turbo Signature takes everything from previous trims, plus more. The regular Turbo model includes black-painted wheels, a wireless charging pad, and unique trim. In addition, it takes things from Premium and Premium Plus models like heated mirrors, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, ventilated front seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and adjustable drive modes.

Furthermore, opting for the highest trim level gets you the best of the best. For example, upgraded leather upholstery, wood trim, and ambient interior lighting enhance the interior tremendously. Next, the range-topping model gets more technology than other CX-5s. Items like a factory navigation system, a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, and rear automatic braking increase convenience and safety.

Do experts recommend the Turbo or Turbo Signature?

According to Car and Driver, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo is the best version to buy. It says the Turbo’s upgraded engine, increased quickness, and “athletic handling” are worth paying for. In addition, the exterior is sportier with its gloss-black accents and the interior with its red accents and stitching. Combined, owners get a faster, better-handling version of the crossover without exceeding the $40,000 mark.

Alternatively, Edmunds recommends the Preferred trim. However, the expert mentions it’s worth buying the Turbo or Turbo Signature for the improved engine. Unfortunately, these models are much more expensive, which is why it called the Preferred model its “value pick.” As a result, buyers get a plethora of features from the first three models for a price that barely reaches $31,000.

Should you buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo or Turbo Signature?

In conclusion, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo is the better buy. With many features from lower trims included, it’s the cheapest way to get luxurious features and the upgraded turbo engine. While the exclusive Turbo Signature items are tempting, they aren’t necessary for most people. Better leather, wood trim, navigation, and some driver aids are nice to have, but the Turbo is well-equipped enough.
