The Mazda CX-5 is the kind of SUV that has staying power. It’s known for its reliability, safety, style, and affordability. Now there’s a new CX-5 on the block; the 2022 Mazda CX-5. This new Mazda CX-5 carries over all of the things that make the CX-5 such an all-around great SUV, while updating its look. What else has changed for the Mazda CX-5?

What’s new for the 2022 Mazda CX-5?

One of the biggest updates to the Mazda CX-5 is exactly the kind of thing that car buyers love; the way it looks. The CX-5 has always been known for its simple, classic look, and Mazda has continued that in its newest SUV. They’ve simply updated the CX-5 to be a bit more modern, and a bit more stylish.

So what’s changed in the 2022 Mazda CX-5? Autoblog says that “the front fascia now features a wider lower intake that smooths out some of the design flourishes in the nose.” They go on to say that this causes the 2022 Mazda CX-5 to look a bit “snouty.” Other changes include a textured grill instead of mesh, and a thicker chrome frame.

If you opt for the premier trim level, previously called the Grand Touring Reserve and now known as the 2.5 Turbo model, you’ll notice that Mazda has gone with glossy black instead of flat black accents. Plastic cladding around the wheel wells is gone now as well.

Interior design also differs between different models of the CX-5. Some come with red accents and stitching. Additionally, the seats have been reshaped. Although the 2021 Mazda CX-5 was comfortable, this revision of the seats in the 2022 Mazda CX-5 should make this the most comfortable CX-5 yet.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with all-wheel drive

Previous models of the Mazda CX-5 offered a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Mazda has since done away with that choice. If you buy the newest Mazda CX-5, you’ll be getting the all-wheel drive. This is a major change, but likely a welcome one for most Mazda CX-5 buyers.

Another change made is to the drivetrain software. Now there are more driving modes, which should allow for smoother driving. If you liked the way the 2021 Mazda CX-5 drove, you just might love the 2022 Mazda CX-5.

Other than that, most elements of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 stay the same as former models. The engine is still a 187-hp, 2.5-liter four cylinder with a six-speed transmission. As mentioned above, there’s also a 2.5-liter turbo engine version.

There’s currently no official pricing for the newest CX-5. It’s likely that they’ll release that information when they get closer to launching the newest Mazda. For now we’ll have to be content with trying to decide between buying the 2021 and the 2022 Mazda CX-5. It won’t be an easy decision.
