Infiniti is the luxury brand for Nissan. As a result, many models from both automakers are very similar. Two examples are the 2022 Infiniti QX80 and the 2022 Nissan Armada. They’re close in size, styling, and several other things. However, one is far more expensive than the other. Is the 2022 Infiniti QX80 worth $20,000 more than the Nissan Armada?

One of the best ways to discover the quality of a vehicle is through Consumer Reports. The publication thoroughly tests its cars in just about every category you can think of. After doing so with the 2022 Nissan Armada and its luxury equivalent, the two almost earned the exact same score. Essential details like predicted reliability and owner satisfaction are the same. However, the Armada scored slightly higher on the road test, but not by much.

The two SUVs are the same in most areas, like ride quality, noise, seat comfort, and interior fit and finish. In addition, both use the same 5.6-liter V8 engine and average around 14 mpg combined. Both come with either rear or four-wheel drive with seating for eight. It’s clear that the two share a lot and are nearly the same SUV. However, one is much more expensive than the other.

First, the QX80 received several upgrades for this new model year. New features include a larger single touchscreen, which replaces the dual-screen infotainment setup that stuck around far too long. In addition, wireless Apple CarPlay and a wireless smartphone charger are now standard. However, it’s also filled with luxurious amenities to increase its value over the Nissan alternative. One of the best ways to see the QX80’s value is through its base model features.

According to Edmunds, the base LUXE model, which starts at $73,645, is well-equipped. It comes with 20-inch wheels, a self-leveling rear suspension, LED headlights, a three-zone climate control system, a power liftgate, and leather upholstery. However, the luxury SUV comes with much more. Power-adjustable heated front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, power-folding third-row seats, a heated steering wheel, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 13-speaker Bose audio system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a wireless smartphone charger, and navigation are all standard.

Next, a suite of safety and driver aids are also included with every QX80. Items like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, a 360-degree camera, forward collision mitigation, and lane-keeping assist are included. Moreover, safety and driver assistance are a concern, even with the base model.

Does the 2022 Nissan Armada have the same features?

That begs the question, does the 2022 Nissan Armada have the same features? For a more affordable price, the Armada could prove to be a bargain over the Infiniti QX80. For $51,195, the Armada S comes with plenty of excellent features. Like its luxury equivalent, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and navigation are standard.

Notable items missing at this price are heated seats, a heated steering wheel, the Bose audio system, a wireless charger, and leather upholstery. Identical driver-assist features are also included, plus blind-spot intervention, lane departure mitigation, automatic rear braking, and rear parking sensors, minus the 360-degree camera.

How much more do you need to pay for these features on the Armada? In short, heated seats, simulated leather, and a wireless charger are unlocked at $55,195 for the SV trim. Moreover, the 13-speaker Bose audio system is first available for the $59,005 SL model. Lastly, buyers who require quilted leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, and ventilated front seats can buy the most expensive Armada Platinum, which starts at $67,595.

Is the 2022 Infiniti QX80 worth $20,000 more than the Nissan Armada?

In conclusion, the 2022 Infiniti QX80 base model is worth $20,000 more than the Nissan Armada base model. However, the Armada SV, SL, and Platinum trims erase most of the value. We think choosing a slightly cheaper Armada with all the same features as a base QX80 is worth it. Using reviews from experts like Consumer Reports, it’s clear that nearly every other attribute of driving, comfort, ride, and reliability are the same. As a result, once the Armada has the same equipment, the 2022 Infiniti QX80 isn’t worth the added cost.
