The top-of-the-line 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited Hybrid offers leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a leatherette-wrapped dashboard, a 10.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster display, a 360-degree camera system, head-up display, and rain-sensing wipers. A solar roof also helps prevent battery discharge and can extend the Sonata’s range up to 2 miles per day.

All trim levels of the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid feature a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor with a lithium-ion battery. With 192 total combined horsepower, its 0 to 60 mph time is 8.3 seconds.

Do you have to charge a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid?

No, the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid does not need to be plugged in to charge. Instead, the hybrid car’s 2.0-liter gasoline engine replenishes the battery as needed during regular driving.

However, the Sonata Hybrid is available with a solar roof panel. According to Hyundai, “When there’s free energy from the sun, SONATA Hybrid takes it. Converting sunlight into electricity, our available solar roof panel recharges the batteries generating enough electric power to increase driving range by nearly 2 miles a day. That’s about 700 additional miles per year.”

How many miles can a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid go on a full tank?

Fuel economy for the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid tops out at 50/54 mpg city/highway for the Blue trim, which U.S. News writes is typical for its class. Other trims can achieve 45/51 mpg. In all, the hybrid car’s 13.2-gallon fuel tank gives it a total range of 594 to 712 miles.

Is the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid a reliable car?

According to U.S. News, the Sonata Hybrid has a predicted reliability score of 83 out of 100. J.D. Power also gave it a predicted reliability score of 91-100.

These scores, plus Hyundai’s excellent five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty should provide plenty of reassurance about the Sonata’s reliability.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid worth buying?

In addition to ranking as U.S. News’ Best Hybrid Car for 2022, the Sonata came close to winning its 2022 Best Hybrid or Electric Car for the Money. The company recognized it for its performance, ride quality, and great fuel economy. The Sonata’s interior is spacious and well laid out with an easy-to-use infotainment system. The only thing U.S. News didn’t like was the touchy brakes. However, the Sonata makes an excellent choice for buyers looking for a reasonably priced midsize sedan or a practical, easy-to-live-with hybrid.
