When it comes to the Chevy Colorado, cheap is used in a good way. Instead of referring to the truck’s integrity, cheap means affordable. This is important to remember because the 2022 Chevy Colorado WT is the cheapest midsize truck you can buy new.

How much does the 2022 Chevy Colorado WT cost?

The 2022 Chevy Colorado WT costs about $26,630, making it the cheapest midsize truck you can buy. In order to save more with a brand new truck, you may have to consider compact options, which are smaller and may have less power.

For example, the 2022 Ford Maverick XL begins at around $21,490. Then you have to move up in trim levels to equip AWD and the towing package. When properly equipped, the Maverick can tow up to 4,000 lbs.

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz is the other new compact truck on the scene, with a starting price of about $25,385. It can tow up to 5,000 lbs, which is what the midsize Honda Ridgeline can tow.

When properly equipped, the Colorado can tow between 3,500 to 7,700 lbs based on which engine is equipped. On that note, the Colorado features an optional diesel engine.

What comes with the Colorado WT?

The 2022 Chevy Colorado WT is the work truck model, so it may not feature as many convenience and comfort features as expected. However, it’s still durable and highly capable.

With the WT, you get AC, cloth upholstery, vinyl floor covering, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a tilt-only steering wheel, power windows, a 7-inch infotainment display, a six-speaker sound system, and two USB ports. Plus, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard.

You can enhance the work truck trim with options for remote keyless entry, a remote locking tailgate, cruise control, OnStar telematics, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi.

But the Colorado WT comes with the 2.5-liter inline-four engine with 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. This engine is adequate but not exactly exciting. Higher trim levels come with the 3.6-liter V6 engine with 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.

You can upgrade to the 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It provides an additional four mpg for highway driving. Each engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

While the 2022 Chevy Colorado WT covers all of the essentials, we understand if you want a little more. Upgrading to the LT trim for $29,130 adds an 8-inch touchscreen, access to the V6 and diesel engines, and the option to equip the off-road Trail Boss package.

However, some critics consider the Chevy Colorado ZR2 to be the best trim, and it increases the price to about $43,745. It includes electronic locking differentials, spool-valve shocks, all-terrain tires, rear parking sensors, and hill descent control.

While the Colorado WT serves as the cheapest new midsize truck you can buy, it provides more than enough options to meet your needs for towing and off-roading. If you like this truck, buy it before it’s gone. The 2023 Colorado will be all new.
