If you have the need for speed, then the Chevrolet Equinox might not come to mind as the sportiest option. However, the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS could grab your attention. It spices things up with racing-oriented upgrades, but don’t be fooled. One crucial aspect is missing.

How fast is the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS?

According to MotorTrend, the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS is a little weak. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mpg in about 8.9 seconds, which is far from sporty and exciting. On top of that, that transmission has slow response times.

It seems to take forever to get out of first gear with noticeable turbo lag. However, once it gets out of first gear, the transmission shifts improve. It falls behind the Honda CR-V, which can reach 60 mph in about 7.8 seconds.

The RS stands for Rally Sport and goes back to the Chevy Camaro RS. However, despite sounding fast, the RC upgrade is primarily an appearance package. Typically, it doesn’t add more power.

So, the Chevy Equinox RS is powered by the same 1.5-liter inline-four engine with 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque that’s used across the entire lineup.

Rumors suggest that the Equinox will gain a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Perhaps it will be added to the lineup in 2023.

What comes with the Equinox RS package?

The 2022 Chevy Equinox RS package provides a much more aggressive look and rides on a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels in Android Gray. The unique RS grille also sets it apart from the rest of the lineup.

More style enhancements include black roof rails, black badging, window surrounds, and LED lighting in the front and rear.

The interior is primarily the same but features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an RS badged red shifter, and red stitching. You can upgrade to the RS leather package for Jet Black leather seats with red contrast stitching. It also includes the Bose premium nine-speaker audio system.

The optional infotainment package adds a heated steering wheel, extra USB ports, a 120-volt outlet, and an 8.0-inch HD touchscreen. The advanced safety package includes a surround-view camera system, heated mirrors, and adaptive cruise control.

Is the 2022 Equinox RS worth buying?

Yes, if you like the way the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS looks, then it’s worth the upgrade. The Equinox starts at $26,050, and the RS trim increases the price to $30,350. So, it costs a little over $4,000 for more comfort and a more confident look.

The Equinox is praised for having a smooth ride over most surfaces with agile and responsive handling. The interior is crafted with high-quality materials and provides plenty of passenger space at the expense of cargo room.

The infotainment system is easy to use and works quickly. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Plus, standard 4G LTE Wi-fi helps drivers and passengers stay connected.

While the Equinox RS isn’t the sportiest option out there, it’s comfortable and engaging. Plus, it comes with plenty of tech and standard safety features to be worth the price.
